The news about Joey Logano getting wrecked in Richmond is spreading like wildfire. Despite Austin Dillon causing the wreck, many fans are unhappy with Joey Logano’s reaction after the race. Heading down to the pit road after being wrecked can be frustrating; however, what the Team Penske driver did after the race was unacceptable.

In the heat of the moment, Logano drove into pit road and decided to rev his engine hard in front of the Richard Childress Racing garage, where Austin Dillon’s family was waiting. This was seen as dangerous behavior, and NASCAR decided to fine the driver $50,000 for his actions. Although many believe that Logano had the right to be mad, others believe that he got a fitting punishment. Even retired NASCAR racer Mark Martin joined in, as he had a few things to say about the incident.

Mark Martin made an appearance on Dale Jr. Download, where the topic at hand was, of course, the Cookout 400. The race had a slow start but got controversial towards the end. Austin Dillon decided to take out his competition, and that led to the NASCAR world coming to a halt. Logano not only caused a scene outside the RCR garage but also shared his candid opinion during the post-race interview.

Logano was clearly mad at Austin Dillon after the race, and that is clearly visible in his interview. So when Mark Martin was asked on the Dale Jr. Download about pit row and post-race interview safety, he replied, “I don’t think it’s about what happened with interviews. I’m frustrated. I didn’t like that at first, but I’ve gotten used to it, and I like it. I like the raw emotion right out of the race car, so I think we need to keep safety in mind.”

Martin empathized with Logano, saying that he understands why NASCAR charged him a $50,000 fine and saying, “But, you know, it’s pretty excessive. And so, thinking about having an excessive penalty for something like this, is it going to deter it in the future? You know, a fifty thousand dollar fine for what he did—he shouldn’t have done it; he should have known better.” Although it was Logano who got wrecked, it was his temper tantrum in the pit lane that brought about the fine.

Mark Martin put himself in Logano’s shoes as he explained, “Joey should have known better, but if you were in his head, you knew that he had control of it and that he wasn’t going to run over somebody. But everybody else doesn’t know that, and if you go at that with an excessive penalty like what I think that was, it deters it.”

After giving a breakdown of why he believes NASCAR made the right choice by fining Joey Logano, he continued to share how he believes safety is one of the most important things in the sport.

What decisions by NASCAR does Mark Martin agree with?

Mark Martin agrees with the penalty that NASCAR imposed on Logano, as the driver’s actions put the lives of fans and teams at risk. He explained how NASCAR should be a safe environment and how cars should not make contact once the race is over.

After highlighting how safety should be the main concern for NASCAR, he shared how he is happy that the authorities are implementing new rules to ensure that no one gets hurt. One such move by NASCAR was to introduce the 45 mph speed limit within the pit road, and according to Martin, it was a “great job.”

Overall, Martin agrees with NASCAR’s decision to fine Logano $50,000, as the authorities made a statement to avoid such reactions in the future. With that said, do you think it was right for Logano to intimidate Dillon’s family? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
