The NASCAR community may discredit Kaulig Racing for not gaining enough success and creating its footprint since its inception in 2016, but the same can’t be said about the team owner, Matt Kaulig. The executive chairman of Kaulig Companies Limited, the NASCAR team owner, was recently featured in the Smart Business Journal for all the right reasons.

However, Kaulig Racing have never been a championship-contesting team; far from it, they have only two Cup Series wins to show in their entire history. The best overall point finish they have managed is because of A.J. Allmendinger, who clinched the second-ever win for his team in the 2023 season, helping them finish 21st in the overall standings. So the Kaulig team had to start on a strong note somewhere, and it was the owner who set the ball rolling for the year 2024.

NASCAR is the dream come true moment for Matt Kaulig and to reach this peak, he had to undergo learning curves and a lot of experimentation. In his early days, he was a renowned quarterback for the University of Akron’s Division 1 football program. It was during his college days that he met his wife, Lisa, who happened to be a cheerleader for the University of Akron. The big leap in life for the duo came when, after completing their graduation, they decided to go back to their roots and create something monumental.

Matt Kaulig, after moving back to Ohio in 2005, decided to create LeafFilter, which would change his life for good. The company LeafFilter promised to end gutter cleaning by using a stainless steel micromesh filter that kept out everything but water. After years of hard work, the employees and the office kept on mounting, with 150 offices nationwide. For a boy whose father sold brake parts and whose mother worked for M&M’s, Kaulig Racing certainly made it into the big leagues.

Now that his business portfolio has expanded and evolved, adding to the success of LeafFilter, he also offers Leaf Home Safety Solutions and Leaf Home Water Solutions. The family office of Matt Kaulig now operates brands in five different verticals: sports and entertainment, marketing and event management, finance and financial services, consumer products, and philanthropy.

When Kaulig Racing announced that A.J. Allmendinger would be racing full-time in the Xfinity Series, it left everyone scratching their heads. According to the team, they are pursuing a championship in the Xfinity Series. The driver himself has put his faith in the owners and their decisions and will be kicking off the year with a Cup Series appearance at Daytona International Speedway.

My plans for 2024 have always been whatever Matt Kaulig and Chris Rice think is best for the team. We’ve got to work to do on both our Xfinity and Cup side as we continue to grow, but I think we are putting ourselves in the best position to keep improving.

It was the Fast & Furious movies that acted as my gateway to the world of cars and motorsports. Later, as I completed my undergrad in Journalism, I learned how to channel my thoughts and opinions, which only helped me kick-start my career as a sportswriter. Having written multiple copies for the Scottish Daily, I am now looking to expand and contribute at EssentiallySports as a NASCAR writer, informing, enlightening, and entertaining the fans with my stories.
