In late October, news broke that NASCAR drivers Matt Tifft and BJ McLeod were teaming up to set up a new Cup team. Now, the two have confirmed that the team will be named Live Fast Motorsports. Additionally, McLeod is set to drive the #78 Ford for the full season.
It is worth noting that Live Fast Motorsports is allying itself with Stewart-Haas Racing.
In a statement, the team said, “Live Fast Motorsports is excited to be joining an incredible group of owners, as well as the new teams and ownership coming into the sport.

According to Tifft, he and McLeod share a very good relationship, dating back to when he was young. At the time, the thought of owning a team had not crossed the latter’s mind yet. However, he did set up a team for the following year’s World Series of Asphalt. Later on, Tifft made his Truck Series debut in 2014 with McLeod at Martinsville, finishing in the top 10.

New NASCAR team Live Fast Motorsports outlines its objectives
Eventually, their partnership led to an eventual full-time Cup ride at the age of 23, for Front Row Motorsports. Now, with Live Fast Motorsports, that dynamic will be reversed, with the veteran racing full-time in the Cup Series.
Tifft insists that the team does not plan to run as a backmarker team. Even though they do not have a huge budget, they are trying to be as competitive as possible. Now that all the fine details have been ironed out, the Live Fast Motorsports team will make its grand debut at Daytona in February.

It is noteworthy that McLeod used to race with the #78 early in his career. McLeod confessed that he lucked out when he asked for Furniture Row Racing’s blessing to use it. He wanted to ensure that the FRR team owners were fine with him using the number.
