“My first goal is to finish all the laps in both races, there’s only been one other guy.” Kyle Larson said this one day ahead of his historic ‘double’ attempt. The #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver was attempting to do something only Tony Stewart had ever done by completing all 1100 miles at the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600. However, his Sunday has gone on a downward spiral.
Larson started the Indy 500 in 19th place, and just as he was starting to gain rhythm, he lost all sports on pit road after a slow stop and a stalled car, dropping to 31st! Then it all unraveled when he spun out and crashed into the wall, taking out #8 Kyffin Simpson along with him. Fans were not going easy on the Arrow McLaren #17 after he had to leave Indianapolis after running just 90 laps, only to enter Charlotte and repeat the same!
One fan said, “to be the best driver in the world kyle larson sure does spin out on his own a lot.” Well, unlike Indy, Larson was running in the lead at the Coca-Cola 600 before his car got loose and slapped the outside wall before spinning out into the road course part of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Another fan congratulated Larson for achieving the double… for spinning out! They wrote, “congratulations to kyle larson for spinning out in both the indy 500 and the coca cola 600”

Then came one that must have stung for Kyle. One fan wrote, “Kyle Larson is damaging so many cars today that he might as well be Danica Patrick.” Danica Patrick, as we all know, was notorious for spinning out inadvertently, and with Larson spinning out in IndyCar and NASCAR, just like Danica used to, this fan is already seeing the parallels. One fan might have gone a bit too far, calling for the 2021 Cup Series Champion to retire! They wrote, “Y’all Kyle Larson can not drive a racecar needs to retire immediately.”

Well, Kyle Larson isn’t making any fans with his ‘Double Duty’ going down the drain in 2025. Can Larson make a comeback with lots of time left in the Coca-Cola 600?

Kyle Larson hated his move at the Indy 500
Last year, Kyle Larson attempted the Double to immense anticipation. A versatile Cup Series Champion at the peak of his career attempting one of the most grueling feats in motorsport? Grab your popcorn! However, all that popcorn turned soggy as rain delayed the start of the Indy 500 and eventually didn’t allow Larson to run the Coca-Cola 600 after he finished 18th at Indy. So, this year, Larson was entering with renewed determination. However, as we now know, it all went awry.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Kyle Larson the new Danica Patrick, or just having a bad day at the races?
Have an interesting take?
Speaking to FOX Sports after the race, Larson looked dejected while describing the incident that ended his day at the Brickyard. ” I got loose and kinda got all over the place. Just hate that I got too eager on the restart and caused that crash. Hate that for everybody that also got caught up in it,” Larson said. His lack of IndyCar experience shone through at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, yet he remained optimistic for the second leg of his already soiled attempt.

“Bummed out, so, trying to get over this quickly and get to Charlotte,” added Larson. Well, things aren’t going well for Larson at Charlotte either, as his car has already entered pit road three times after his spin off Turn 4, as he currently runs 33rd. Well, we all know how the 2022 Coca-Cola 600 went, as he fought his way to the front only to get passed on the final restart. So, there’s hope for Larson as he has a fast car, with his teammate, William Byron, running up top, but the rest is all up to fate, which has not been kind to the #5.
