Twitter Users Bombard Unbelievable News Post With Facetious Comments

But to give some context, Finland has come up with a rather peculiar way to stop people from speeding. The Finnish Govt. follows the “day fine” system. Speeding fines are calculated on the basis of an offender’s daily disposable income, which in most cases is their daily salary divided by two. Also, this isn’t the first time that the Finns have handed out a ridiculous speeding ticket.

Former Nokia director, Anssi Vanjoki, was ordered to pay a fine of $103,600 after being caught driving at 47mph in a 30mph zone on his motorbike back in 2002.

In recent years, the Finnish Govt. fined a businessman $62,000 for driving 13mph over the 31mph speed limit.

Twitter erupted with comments from users over the drastic fines issued. Some said, “cost more than the car lol, my two-year annual income” and “keep on driving, bro – just don’t go back”.

In 2010, a Swedish motorist was fined $3,982 every day for 300 days straight [amounting to a total of $1,091,340] after his Mercedes SLS AMG was impounded. The fine came after they caught the motorist driving at 180mph.

With the passage of time, the United Kingdom has introduced penalties that allow drivers to be fined up to 175% of their weekly income. As Europe leads in speeding penalties, repeat offenders are even liable to be jailed.
