Without a doubt, Kevin Harvick is still mad about the safety standards in NASCAR. Ahead of the NASCAR Cup race at the Kansas Speedway, he ripped into the sport and declared that safety was just an afterthought. He has every right to be aggrieved, especially after his car suddenly caught fire last weekend at Darlington.

Speaking to the media, he said, “I think if the teams were in charge of stuff like that and the proper input was in place, we would have never had more than two fires, if the teams were in charge, for the whole field. They would have collaborated and not been so slow to react.”

“The whole safety thing is just really kind of second fiddle right now. I just don’t think that’s fair to the drivers. We can debate all day, but debating isn’t really fixing anything.”

NASCAR Twitter agrees with Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kevin Harvick

Safe to say, there were many NASCAR fans who agreed with the #4 driver. Some even dubbed him as the ‘modern day Dale Earnhardt‘. Others observed that NASCAR’s actions could soon force the drivers to form a union to safeguard themselves. Few even acknowledged that there were many questions about the Next Gen car ahead of the 2022 season. Now, there is already one driver out of action due to a crash.

Some even suggested that any major changes will have to wait until the off-season. This is because, by then, the teams will have enough time to buy new parts and make necessary adjustments. At the end of the day, fans believe that it is time for drivers to step up and take such matters into their own hands.

On a different note, Kevin Harvick will be eagerly waiting for this race in order to redeem himself. Last weekend’s fiery exit meant that he is languishing near the bottom of the Playoff standings.

So, he really needs to use this race and the upcoming race at Bristol to stay alive in the competition.
