Last year, one of the most notable events was the split between Kyle Busch and Joe Gibbs Racing. The separation was anything but amicable and could be likened to a contentious divorce. The situation escalated after Busch’s primary sponsor, M&M’s, decided to exit the sport altogether, leaving the two-time Cup Series champion in a precarious position.

With over $40 billion in revenue, M&M’s were associated with NASCAR until they decided to end the partnership last year. As the 2022 season drew to a close, there were numerous discussions about JGR searching for a new sponsor. However, ultimately, Busch had to part ways with the team after a 15-year association. Over the years, he had earned the nickname “Candyman” due to his M&M’s-sponsored merchandise and the distinctive liveries on his car.

A Kyle Busch car was once displayed prominently at M&M’s World Las Vegas. However, recently, a fan shared a photo on Reddit that showed most of the livery and Busch’s name removed from the car.

This likely happened for legal reasons, as Busch no longer receives sponsorship from the brand. Upon joining Richard Childress Racing, a different company, 3CHI, began sponsoring Busch.

Nevertheless, fans were left feeling disappointed and disheartened by M&M’s actions towards the car, which seemed to erase its historical connection to the sport and the driver.

Fans had various reactions to the situation on Reddit, with one commenting, “It looks weird, but I’m sure this was a licensing issue between JGR and Mars. It does show just how generic those cars were until you put a quality decal package on them.” Another added, “As a Kyle fan I’m always excited for the future but this one really stings.”

One fan expressed disappointment, saying, “That’s depressing.” Meanwhile, another remarked, “That’s feels quite Petty, if I’m being honest.” A different fan suggested, “Lawyers. Lawyers are why this happened.” Lastly, another fan questioned, “Why even have the car displayed anymore? Now it just looks bland and out of place.”

On one hand, it’s understandable to re-wrap the car since Busch no longer has an association with their sponsorship. However, viewed from another perspective, the iconic liveried car’s historical significance might be lost, preventing future generations from appreciating it.
