Austin Hill is on a roll this season. His Xfinity Series performance has been nothing short of incredible. The contrast between his last year’s performance and this year’s performance has amazed NASCAR fans. Besides winning races, Hill has also mastered the technical side of the NASCAR races and its point system. He has a solid grasp of what he can do besides winning races to ensure that his place in the playoffs is further strengthened.

When asked about whether his recent wins have landed him in a better position than where he was last year, Hill unearthed his strengths. And, it seems like NASCAR and their constantly changing rules have quite a huge role to play in it.

The current system established by NASCAR has increased the racer’s chances of gaining more points than it was before. Unlike most NASCAR drivers, Hill has turned his attention to gathering as many of these points as possible.

I think it’s mainly because we have more points to fall on now if we have an issue right. So, last year, we didn’t have that much points to follow along, you know, playoff points and all this year, we have a lot more playoff points following. We have five extra bonus points for each one that we’ve had. We have four wins. We’ve gotten, I don’t know, how many stage points but a handful of one or two.”

Wins are something Hill has already bagged enough of this season. It goes on to show how he has been strengthening his chances for the playoffs right from the beginning.

Hill has a simple strategy: Perform in such a manner that a bad race here and there can do nothing to affect your overall performance. And the only way to do so is to gather as many points as possible. Be it stage points through winning, bonus points for racing, or even playoff points, scoring enough of these points is quintessential for him.

We didn’t have a lot to fall on and then we had a bad Martinsville Race and it ended up costing us. So, I think that’s somewhere that we’ve been really focusing on a lot this year, doing whatever we can to get stage wins.

“Obviously, win races if you can win races. That helps a lot. But I think we got to do a better job of getting some more State twins going into these playoffs. Because any playoff points that we can get, that way if we have a bad weekend, we can kind of fall back on,” concluded Hill.
