In a team statement, he said, “My first priority is the health and safety of my loved ones and my teammates. I’ve never missed a race in my Cup career, but I know it’s going to be very hard to watch from the sidelines when I’m supposed to be out there competing. Although this situation is extremely disappointing, I’m going to come back ready to win races and put ourselves in playoff contention.”

According to Hendrick Motorsports, Johnson and the organization were constantly in touch both before and after the test. Once he informed the team of the matter, they informed NASCAR and the two have been coordinating to figure out the next step.

How did NASCAR respond to the Jimmie Johnson news?

In light of this revelation, NASCAR reacted immediately and outlined a plan to ensure Johnson’s return to the racetrack. The sport has to be careful to abide by the CDC’s current guidelines. These guidelines state that Johnson has to be symptom-free and turn in two negative test results, at least 24 hours apart. Additionally, one of Johnson’s No. 48 traveling crew is self-quarantining, since he has been in close contact with the driver.

Hendrick Motorsports owner, Rick Hendrick said, “Jimmie has handled this situation like the champion he is. We’re relieved he isn’t showing symptoms and that Chani is doing great, and we know he’ll be back and ready to go very soon.”

The team is handling the coronavirus situation through detailed procedures to ensure its team members’ health and safety. In other words, all personnel undergo daily COVID-19 screenings at team facilities. Additionally, facility operations and traveling personnel have been separated and work schedules are split. Finally, everybody compulsorily wear face mask and observe social distancing. The team also engages in disinfecting and sanitization of all work areas.
