The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs enter the Round of 12 on Sunday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As most of the drivers have already expressed, this race could be a make or break event in this round, given the two tracks that follow Las Vegas.

The Talladega Superspeedway and The Roval at Charlotte present bigger challenges and drivers want to ace the Las Vegas test. Having said that, Vegas will not make things any easier on Sunday. The 12 competitors will give it their all, knowing that a win puts them directly in the next round.

Harvick’s supremacy this season

Kevin Harvick starts the race on pole position, with Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott rounding off the Top-3. Harvick is on a dream run in the Cup Series, and to bet against him would be folly.

He is chasing his 10th win this season and also won two of three races in the first round of the Playoffs.

While he said he is taking things one race at a time, Crew Chief Rodney Childers revealed that even a Top-5 finish at Las Vegas would make him happy.

Nevertheless, Harvick has one of the strongest cars, and watching him take the checkered flag home would not catch anyone off-guard.

Busch and Logano are not far behind at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Kyle Busch is long overdue for a win. The reigning champion showed signs of his quality at Bristol last weekend. He will be excited to race at his home track, despite making the claim at Bristol that he will be eliminated in this round.

Joey Logano won the last time around at Las Vegas. His restart prowess also holds him in good stead and he is itching for a win. He returned two Top-3 finishes in the earlier round. Logano is on a winless run since May, and this could be his chance to break that streak.

Two other seriously strong title contenders are also due a win. Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott are never out of the equation and promise to make things very interesting.

The dark horses for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas

Aric Almirola’s results have been on an upward trend in the Playoffs. Almirola registered two Top-10 finishes in the first two playoff races and sped to the Top-five last weekend at Bristol. He has some momentum going his way and can make some solid ground at Vegas.

Kurt Busch accompanies his brother in their home race. Both hold a poor record there but are highly motivated to do well this time around. Alex Bowman can also not be ruled out in the No. 88 car for Hendrick Motorsports.

Sunday night promises to be an interesting event on the track. While all the favorites and the dark-horses will be gunning for glory, there might be some with just that extra motivation to prevail.
