At the NASCAR All-Star race, there is going to be a rule of sorts in terms of how drivers are expected to behave. In light of this, Matt DiBenedetto spoke about the upcoming race at Bristol Speedway.

He knows that the Bristol track is much shorter and even spoke about the Choose Rule.

He confessed that he is excited about this, and Austin Dillon rallied for it. DiBenedetto noted that picking the ideal racing lane, especially at short tracks, is vital.

In other words, it can help dictate their finishing position in the race itself. So, picking the wrong lane could cost a driver at least 10 spots on the track.

He insisted that a number of drivers treat the lane choice rule very seriously because it places all control in their own hands. So, it isn’t surprising that Matt DiBenedetto is excited by this prospect, especially since they can leapfrog a few rows.

Even if some drivers are not on preferable starting positions, they can choose the lane.

What else did Matt DiBenedetto say?

Speaking to Fox Sports, the 28-year old said, “Everyone’s gonna have that same mindset of when its a non-points race and you have everything on the line for a million bucks.

“The fact that there’s no points makes it worth all or nothing. It doesn’t do you much good if you don’t win.”

He also affirmed that the same concept applies in the All-Star Open. Consequently, these races tend to witness a lot more aggression.

Unsurprisingly, the chances of drivers trying to play dirty due to the lack of accountability and repercussions are rather high.

DiBenedetto also observed that racing on a short track is far different. This is because, at a big track it is quite difficult to get close to another driver’s rear bumper, owing to the dirty air.

However, on a shorter track, like the one at Bristol, there is a lot of scope for aggressive tactics and getting close to others.
