NASCAR Driver Ryan Newman Still in Hospital After Huge Last Lap Crash

The Daytona 500 NASCAR race concluded in and hugely dramatic fashion. Race leader Ryan Newman got tagged from behind and his out-of-control car took out several others. The American driver was immediately rushed to hospital after his car flipped and got hit by another car.

The incident was a black mark in what was a hugely entertaining race. After Newman had his almighty shunt, Denny Hamlin took over the lead and went on to win the race. Hamlin’s initial joy lasted until he learned of the severity of Newman’s injuries.

As per doctor’s reports, Newman is in serious condition. Luckily, his team Roush Fenway Racing assured that his injuries are not life threatening.

How did Ryan Newman crash?

THe Indiana-born driver was on his way to a victory at Daytona after the race was postponed owing to heavy rain on Sunday. Unfortunately, Ryan Blaney tagged Newman’s No. 6 car, and the rest of the accident played itself out.

Newman’s car spun out of control and flipped on its roof. After sliding down the speedway, another car collided with the number 6 car.

The American was quickly transported to the Halifax Health Medical Center in the wake of the accident. After a long and agonising wait, Roush Fenway Racing issued a statement about their driver. The team assured that even though his injuries were not life-threatening, he was in serious condition.

Meanwhile, a repentant Denny Hamlin apologized for celebrating after the win. He insisted that he never mean to be insensitive, but he was unaware of Newman’s condition.

Luckily, nobody really held his early celebration against him. However, it does not take away the fact that this is the third time that Hamlin has won the Daytona 500. Hamlin finished ahead of Ryan Blaney and Chris Buescher in the second-closest Daytona finish in NASCAR history.
