Pit road chaos remains etched in NASCAR’s history. Remember Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s famous pit collisions and some high-profile errors? Well, Ty Dillon entered the same list last week with a miscommunication problem. He crashed with Willian Byron, which automatically caused a shake-up at Kaulig Racing.

This time around at Talladega, though Dillon didn’t run into William Byron, and with a new spotter, everyone expected a far better outcome. However, another incident occurred in the pits during the YellaWood 500. That has put Ty Dillon and his team into the spotlight yet again. But now, the very passionate NASCAR fans have lost patience with it.

Ty Dillon runs over a Ford driver’s tire amid Talladega chaos
It all transpired when Ty Dillon maintained his position in the pit box during the cycle, stationed right behind Josh Berry. After his crew completed a tire change, Dillon prepared to exit but misjudged the gap to the No. 21, striking a right rear tire left on the ground. As he made his way onto pit road, one of Berry’s tire changers turned out to make contact with Dillon’s car. Moreover, the footage showed the tire changer seemed to direct the Kaulig Racing driver aside, but the signal may be compromised.
And as Dillon‘s race continued, he seemed to make no progress. Rolling off the field in 29th position, the 33-year-old had made no progress by stage one, dropping to 32nd place. But by the end of stage 2, Dillon made some progress and pushed his No. 10 Kaulig to 26th place. In fact, he even managed to lead two laps of the race.

However, as the race went into overtime, the Kaulig Racing driver found some pace, leaving Talladega with 17 points, finishing a solid 20th. For now, no penalties or talks have been reported between the two teams. But there are fair chances that NASCAR won’t go easy, as the Las Vegas incident still haunts them amid the conversations swirling around it.
Just an atrocious move from Ty Dillon here. Absolutely no need to hit that tire.

Kaulig Racing hasn’t publicly accepted blame for the petrol incident involving Ty Dillon and William Byron. Instead, the team placed responsibility on Dillon’s ex-spotter, Joe White, who got the sack. CEO Chris Rice defended Dillon, stating the team had no intent to cause harm and attributing the incident to unclear radio communication. Rice emphasized that Dillon was simply executing his strategy and that the situation was a racing incident, likening it tospotlightar-ended at the Spotlight.
However, in a sudden twist of events, Dillon’s ex-spotter didn’t take the blame for the incident, revealing that he had communicated to Byron’s spotter that Dillon would be pitting. But Byron had denied such claims, saying, “Nobody said anything to my spotter, from what I know. I had zero idea. I never saw him wave. I didn’t see any indication that he was pitting.” Moreover, Byron’s crew chief, Rudy Fugle, also cleared the same in an appearance on the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio show.

But with Las Vegas still fresh on everyone’s mind, and do not forget to add the Talladega incident this afternoon, the Kaulig Racing driver is back in the controversy mix, and the NASCAR world is left fuming.
NASCAR fans slam Ty Dillon’s new spotter amid Talladega pit road incident
The pit road incident between Dillon and Josh Berry has sparked a wave of criticism from fans on Reddit, many of whom are questioning accountability within the Kaulig Racing team. One viewer bluntly stated, “Crew chief or spotter (whoever they played radio of) needs a talking to as well. Whole team reeks of unaccountability.”
Others highlighted the timing of the mishap, noting, “Really bad look for this to happen in the first race under a new spotter…” The combination of a rookie Kaulig spotter and a miscommunication on pit road once again left fans shaking their heads over what should have been a routine sequence.
Several fans defended Dillon to an extent, suggesting that they should the blame across the team rather than resting solely on the driver. As one explained, “This is why I didn’t put all the blame on Dillon. Someone should have been communicating to him what was going on instead of just telling him that he was clear.”
Another fan argued that the stakes of contacting a competitor’s tires were far higher than typical racing bumps, writing, “To me, making contact with another team’s equipment – and especially personnel – while it’s in their box should carry huge penalties.” The consensus was that a better communication protocol could have prevented the incident entirely.
However, not all fans are sympathetic. Many expressed frustration with Dillon’s recent performance. One remarked, “Ty Dillon just pissing away all the goodwill he gained during the in-season bracket.” Ever since Dillon edged out top seeds to claim the $1 million prize in the regular in-season challenge, fans believe all that good is suddenly washing off.
Another question has recent decision-making on track: “What in the world is going on with Ty the last couple weeks? He seemed to be running a relatively clean, respectable season, and now it’s like he’s just… really stupid.”
Dillon’s unusual behavior leads to debate, reflecting disappointment in the outcome and accountability. With no update on this situation, do you think Ty Dillon will get penalized? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
