In the last few years, NASCAR has been heavily experimenting with schedules. There has been a massive shift in terms of the types of race tracks the year consists of, something fans have sometimes disapproved of. However, if Richard Childress is to be believed, NASCAR fans might get even more frustrated with this experimentation.

The legendary team owner recently revealed that he expects more road courses in the schedule. He argued that the Next-Gen car is built like the road course cars like IMSA and the other series.

“I think you’re going to see more and more of the road courses. We can’t get away from what made NASCAR what it is.” Childress continued, “We can’t get away from intermediates and the speedways — Daytona, Talladega — but I think you got to do what the fans want and we’re just trying to please them for sure.”

This news led to many NASCAR fans getting frustrated and riled up.

“Sorry but Nascar was made for oval racing. I don’t mind two or three but now they are going overboard. Nascar has proven time and time again that they really do not care what the fans think. Now they are thinking about a street race, sorry but that is not Nascar,” wrote one of the fans.

“I hate road courses. Lousy to watch in person and lousy racing on TV. Probably why I find watching paint dry more interesting than F1 and Indy,” wrote another.

“We need more short tracks no more road courses they got enough and alot lees mile and a half.”

“Fans like myself want more short tracks. NASCAR doesn’t need to turn into Formula 1 or IMSA. 6 road courses is borderline over the top,” one fan wrote.

Richard Childress on Tyler Reddick’s maiden NASCAR Cup win

In an interview after the race at Road America, Richard Childress spoke about his driver, Tyler Reddick’s first NASCAR Cup Series win. “It’s great to see Tyler Reddick in the winner’s circle,” Childress said.

“It wasn’t a matter of if he was going to do it, it was a matter of when they were going to win.”

As for what Reddick said, he believed they’ve gotten “slapped in the face” with Cup racing’s reality.

“I’ve had to learn a lot over the course of these last three years in the Cup Series as a driver. But I’ve had some really great people behind me to help me do that,” he added.
