During a World of Outlaws race at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, there was a massive crash, to the shock of many NASCAR fans. With five laps to go, Carson Short and Slater Helt were battling for fourth place.

Short managed to get a good run on Helt and dove around the outside. Unfortunately, it all went wrong as the left rear wheel of Short’s car clipped the right front of Helt’s car.

As a result, they both spun and crashed into the outside wall and catch fence. The incident was quite violent because Short’s car went airborne as it straddled the fence.

Eventually, both wrecked cars came to a rest on their roofs and sides. Fortunately, both drivers were able to extricate themselves and walk away unscathed.

Naturally, it was a bit of a shock for a fair number of fans and the racing community. Though they were thankful that everyone was able to walk away unhurt. Admittedly, it did look like a frightening accident, and one of the cars almost catch fire.

What else did NASCAR fans say about the accident?

Some fans knew that the accident could have been a lot worse, because Short’s car got a lot of air time. Nevertheless, a few declared that the drivers were ‘tough as nails’ to survive such a violent crash. It is worth mentioning that both Short and Helt were competing for a spot in the feature race. So it was no surprise that there would be a few aggressive moves for the final spot.

However, one would have to admit that the crash was a bit unnecessary. Though if we’re being honest, desperate times called for desperate measures. On the other end of the spectrum, there were still five laps to go. So he could have afforded to hang back a little bit and tried again later on when he was in a better position.
