NASCAR fans will see a familiar face on track in Cody Ware during next weekend’s Cup Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway but not everyone is happy about it. The 28-year-old spent a tumultuous year in 2023 when he was suspended by NASCAR over assault allegations by his then-girlfriend. However, after a legal back and forth between the Ware family and the woman in question, charges from both sides were dropped and NASCAR lifted his suspension in December.

The news first surfaced when FOX journalist Bob Pockrass shared an update on X. And, as it turns out, Cody Ware will be piloting the #15 car for his father’s team, Rick Ware Racing.

“Cody Ware entered in the Rick Ware Racing No. 15 Cup car for Talladega. It’s his first Cup race since his suspension last year (he was reinstated in December),” the tweet read. While the 28-year-old has never won a race in the competition, his best finish came on a superspeedway with a P6 at the Daytona International Speedway in the 2022 fall race. Ware will certainly be hoping for a similar result next weekend as he sets his sights on redemption.

While NASCAR fans are usually quite excited to see a driver get back into action after a lengthy hiatus, Cody Ware faced a rather mixed reaction as some fans pointed out the RWR driver’s on-track altercations.

Fans fear massive wrecking due to Rick Ware Racing star

After last weekend’s caution-filled race in Texas, the last thing anyone wants is another Sunday with countless cautions. However, with Cody Ware in the mix, fans do not seem to have a lot of hope. “Aaaaaaaaand the cautions out for the 15,” one user commented under Pockrass’s tweet. Another fan wrote, “at least we know who’s gonna cause a caution on lap 10!!!!”

Some fans believe that the driver of the #15 won’t be involved in a small crash, but will set off a big one and wipe out half of the field. “Bros causing the big one,” wrote one fan. Another user quipped, “watch out field, Cody the wrecking machine is back in action.” However, some comments were even more imaginative than that!

One fan believed that the 28-year-old would not even wreck the cars he was wrecking. Rather, he would get lapped and then wreck the cars that are a lap up on him. “Gonna get lapped early and wreck and destroy half the field,” one fan commented. It will be interesting to see how the Rick Ware Racing star fares after such a long time away from Cup Series action. Will he be able to have a clean race? Let us know your thoughts.
