The Texas Motor Speedway race definitely raised a lot of concerns surrounding NASCAR and the safety of drivers in the new cars. With a series of right-tire problems, the NASCAR community is questioning the official tire manufacturer, Goodyear for the glitches.

However, at the same time, the entire community seems a bit divided. With drivers like Denny Hamlin blaming Goodyear for the tire defects, Hendrick Motorsports Chase Elliott acquitted Goodyear of any blame. Although both of them have their own views on the incident, everyone agrees that these right-tire glitches pose a safety threat to the drivers behind the wheel.
In the recent episode of Door Bumper Clear, NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin provided fans with some insider information. Griffin said that he talked to a few crew chiefs who were at the race while talking about the events that transpired at the Texas Motor Speedway. He shared;
“I am not a tire guy. I am not a crew chief. But I only have the ability to know what they tell me. And I talked to a crew chief last night. And his car did not blow any right-side tires. It had no problems. I said is this a Goodyear issue. And he said 100%.”
Moving ahead, he revealed his interaction with another crew chief. he said; “Now, with that said, I spoke to another crew chief this morning. And the biggest question I asked him was that we are headed to two more miles and a half (tracks). We have Vegas coming up and we have Homestead coming up. Is there concern leading into those two races? And he said 100%.”
However, after talking to third crew chief, Griffin saw the situation in a whole new light. He said; “Having spoken to a third crew chief and some drivers, I felt like the liability here is across the board.”
What, according to Brett Griffin should NASCAR do?
After his interactions with the crew chiefs, Brett Griffin realized that the onus of the constant mishaps has to be borne by people across the board. He further said that NASCAR needs to view things from a new perspective. he said; “I felt like NASCAR needs to listen to a guy like Rodney (Childers) in terms of letting teams not be limited in the areas where they are limited.”

Furthermore, he pointed out that the tracks saw a lot of left-tire problems at the start of the year. But the problems are gone. Explaining his view on what might have happened, he said; “How do you think that happened? So, somebody spent money and somebody fixed it. Now you got right-side tire problems which are actually, arguably more dangerous.”

Griffin believes that talking things out is the only logical solution. He said; “So, I think you gotta have a table.” Moreover, he shared who should be a part of the conversation surrounding these issues. he said:
“Have a NASCAR guy at the table. You’ve gotta have a competition guy on the table like Greg Zipadelli or Brian Pattie or somebody that’s been there, done that for many years, and understands the different dynamics as it pertains to racing. And then, you’ve ultimately gotta have Goodyear sitting there.”
