The 2024 Cup season is just around the corner, and all eyes are on Hendrick Motorsports, arguably the most prestigious organization in NASCAR history. Just barely missing out on their 15th Cup Series Championship, HMS experienced a rollercoaster 2023 campaign. While Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman were forced to miss time due to injury, Kyle Larson and William Byron battled it out in the Championship 4 with both drivers securing the No. 2 and No.3 spots respectively.

So, what does the approaching season have in store for the Rick Hendrick-owned powerhouse team? NASCAR insiders have made some strong claims, suggesting this season may end up in total ‘domination’ for Hendrick.

A Year of Contrasting Results for Hendrick Motorsports

This is not just wishful thinking as Jordan Bianchi and Jeff Gluck returned with some bold predictions for HMS in the year 2024, in the latest episode of their podcast, ‘The Teardown’.

Gluck went on to lay out a detailed analysis of HMS’s commendable performance in the last year, emphasizing, “Hendrick Motorsports had the second and third-place drivers in the Championship, that is Larson & Byron finished second and third. Again, Chase Elliott and friends, collectively finished 10th, in owner points, made the playoffs, and made it a good run at a shot at making the final 4 really. And then Alex Bowman and friends collectively were P20…”

Although Hendrick Vice President of Competitions Chad Knaus previously expressed worries about the absence of a new Chevrolet car, Gluck maintained confidence in HMS’ ability to perform well.

He draws attention to Chase Elliott’s declaration of faith in the team’s advancement before the Phoenix race as well as Larson and Byron’s impressive performances last year. Predicting another blockbuster season for HMS, He boldly declared, “Can Byron continue his breakout? I think so. Larson is going to be Larson. Elliot will probably be better. Bowman can get up there, so I feel like it’s going to be actually potentially more wins for Hendrick this year…”

Bianchi has one big question regarding an HMS driver

Similar to Gluck, Bianchi predicted that Larson and Byron will have another fantastic season. The veteran reporter reckoned, “I think with Kyle Larson and William Byron, they’re each going to have three or more wins. They’ll be among the lap leaders, and do all the big things we expect from them. I think one of those two has got a very good chance to win the regular season championship. I think one of those two has a very good chance to win the championship…” He does, however, highlight the difficulty of keeping up the momentum after an exceptional year—a feat that has escaped many drivers in the past.

Bianchi also dived into Chase Elliott’s narrative, recognizing his struggles from 2023, while projecting optimism for a strong comeback for the 2020 Cup Series Champion. He admitted, “I am gonna write off last year for Chase Elliott, everything that could go wrong went wrong. We know what Chase Elliott is at this point, and at a minimum, I think three wins and finishing near the top of the regular season championship is what our expectations should be.”

However, he poses a fascinating question regarding Alex Bowman, voicing concerns about his capacity to heal from his injuries while simultaneously recognizing the new changes in place. Blake Harris, Bowman’s new crew chief, will have a reasonable impact on the #48 team’s performance. In Bianchi’s words, “Alex Bowman’s a really big question mark for me… What version of Alex Bowman are we going to get?”
