In the realm of NASCAR gossip, Kyle Busch emerged as the undeniable focal point during the tumultuous transition from 2022 to 2023. Aficionados found themselves agog as Busch, a stalwart with Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota for over 15 years, abruptly defected to the Richard Childress Racing enclave, sporting the Chevrolet banner. Initial trepidation and skepticism enveloped this daring move. But as the new season unfurled, applause replaced doubt when Busch triumphantly graced victory lane three times. However, the euphoria was ephemeral. Swiftly, Busch’s once-promising trajectory plunged into an abyss of mechanical failures and nagging machinery issues. Once a frontrunner and a favorite for the Championship 4, Busch plummeted in the rankings.

A recent episode of the JC’s Garage podcast added fuel to the fire as co-host J.C. Fickenscher delivered some hard-to-swallow words for Rowdy’s loyal fans. The discussion centered on predictions for the upcoming Kansas race, and it was clear the road ahead would be a challenging one for the two-time champ.

During the podcast, Fickenscher shared his candid thoughts on Busch’s performance in the NASCAR circuit. Fickenscher expressed uncertainty about Busch’s future race outcomes, stating that it’s challenging to predict where he will finish. While Busch had a solid day at Darlington, a respectable P11, Fickenscher noted that such good runs have been relatively limited. Kyle Busch, kind of don’t really know where he’s gonna finish. He had a solid day at Darlington, but we just don’t have a lot on them,” he said.

Fickenscher further elaborated that while the RCR ace showed promise early in the season, his performance had since plateaued. He also acknowledged that Busch might have a strong showing at Kansas in the upcoming race. But he doubted whether Busch could outperform the formidable 23XI and his former camp, Joe Gibbs Racing teams.

They were good early in the season and they’ve kind of just evened out. They haven’t been anything crazy. He could be really good at Kansas this week, but I don’t see him being better than the 23XI cars or the Joe Gibbs cars.”

As the NASCAR season progresses, there’s a cloud of doubt surrounding Busch’s journey. But the man himself remains unshaken in his belief that Richard Childress can take him to Phoenix. Busch exuded optimism as he revealed their championship aspirations. He stressed the importance of making it to the championship race in Phoenix. He confidently stated, “I would say that we were going to give it a fair shot to get to Phoenix. I think if you get to Phoenix, I think anybody has a shot to win the championship.”

Acknowledging the challenges of the first round, including engine failures in the previous year, Busch remained undeterred, drawing strength from his consistent track record. Despite concerns about Talladega and the Roval, he found encouragement in their past third-place Roval finish. “So, is the first round easy? Look at last year; I blew up twice, so no, it’s not. But when you look at me and the results and the race tracks and things like that, the only round you look at as a concern is probably Talladega and the Roval. But last year, we ran third at the Roval,” he said.

Reflecting on their recent performance at Watkins Glen, Busch saw promise in strong finishes. “If we could be clean and make no mistakes, then our top 10, top 5 potential was huge. So, I think that’s where we’ve got to really focus on right now. In these final 10 weeks, we’ve been trying the last 4 to 5 to get started on that,” he added.
