The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season is almost here, but the governing body is still confirming last-minute regulations. According to reports, the latest one has to do with the rain package for the races. After all, nobody can predict the weather, and no team wants to be caught unawares.

This new rain package will be in use at short tracks and will mirror the road course wet weather package. The arrival of this package could spell good news for the teams.

Of course, this does not mean that there won’t be any rain delays. After all, any kind of standing water poses a massive risk for drivers, so, race officials may still be forced to intervene. The hope is that NASCAR‘s new wet oval package could help get drivers back on the track sooner than before. Unfortunately, not many fans were overly receptive to this change.

Yet another angry fan ranted, “So NASCAR is willing to risk the lives of drivers, so they won’t have to stay an extra day, or issue refunds. NASCAR is really going NFL (Not for long)!!!” Another said, “We never let rain stop us on road courses and endurance races. Use the rain tires on tracks up to 1.5 miles. It will slow the pace down and then we really get to see who the better driver is.”

Finally, one person noted, “This would be great if they didn’t do it the NASCAR way, the sport that brings out full course yellows and half hour delays when there a single car spin, The sport that makes the entire field stop and gives them 5 min to change over to wet.

“The coolest thing about rain in F1 is the transitions between wet and dry and the gambling and calculations on something as unpredictable as the weather. You add in cars that actually race and pass each other and you’ve got a recipe for pure entertainment. until the NASCAR fun governors destroy it with a red flag changeover.”
