NASCAR Legend Jeff Burton Defends Denny Hamlin’s “Lawsuit” Threats After Ryan Blaney’s All-Star Win

In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, former NASCAR driver Jeff Burton shared his opinion on the post-race comments by a frustrated Denny Hamlin. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver reigned down with all his fury on NASCAR for the late-race controversy involving the race-winner Ryan Blaney.

And Burton thought that Hamlin made sense, only he said it in a way only he can.

“I don’t know about the lawsuit and all that, but I do believe what Denny is saying is at least partially correct,” Burton said. “Because here you are with a guy, you’re watching his window net down, you know he can’t get it latched, you’re like, ‘MY SPOT!'”

“It’s a safety issue, you don’t have a choice. I see where he’s coming from. I don’t disagree with Denny at all,” he continued. “Denny will go a little further than I would the way he says things, but the essence of what he’s saying is not wrong.”

Denny Hamlin believes NASCAR should’ve played by the rules

After the race, Denny Hamlin elaborated on his frustrations with NASCAR. “This isn’t a Denny Hamlin judgement call,” he said.

“I’m just saying, ‘Whatever the rule is, let’s be consistent and play by the rules.’ It’s unfortunate because he made a mistake.”

He argued that Blaney should’ve won the race the first time as he was 100 yards away from the win, that “many cars have not won races” because of a mistake at the end, and that “those things happen.”

The #11 driver added that he is confused about whether or not it was a “moral problem” they had, to not cost him the win so they conveniently threw the caution at the end.

“I think they just had a moral dilemma instead of just playing by the rules like they’re supposed to.”
