The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series is off to a roaring start, with the three manufacturers vying for dominance on the track. Amidst the season beckoning us from “The Diamond of the Desert,” the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a tweet from Bob Pockrass, NASCAR Correspondent for FOX, sparked a social media storm regarding Ford’s new Dark Horse model. Consequently, the ensuing banter, including a sly dig from NASCAR legend Michael Waltrip, has the NASCAR community buzzing on Twitter.

Prior to the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, Pockrass tweeted an update about Ford’s subtle badge adjustment on the 2024 Dark Horses. His caption, “Ford has made its dark horse a little more visible on the cars,” included a picture of Josh Berry’s Stewart-Haas Racing #4. Ford’s updated logo for reference is where this whole story kicked off.

Most fans referred to a recent discussion on the Dirty Mo Media Network podcast, “Door Bumper Clear,” where the controversial spotters talked about the Ford logo and its current design in a conversation. One fan even mentioned Brett Griffin himself, “@SpotterBrett Ford listens to DBC lmao.” However, the most notable retweet of the original post was made, in fact, by NASCAR legend and color commentator for FOX, Michael Waltrip.

In a brilliant post, the 33-year Cup Series veteran dropped a pun, asking, Did they rename it Light Horse?”

Fans of the legend joined in on his signature humor further, solidifying the timeless connection between each very important stakeholder in the sport. Twitter user @ryne_wille replied with his comedic contribution. Despite the online banter, Ford’s performance on the track in the 2024 season cannot be overlooked. The new Dark Horse Mustangs have established dominance with back-to-back pole positions at the Daytona 500 and the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Team Penske’s Joey Logano and his #22 have been instrumental for the blue oval, securing two poles in three races.

In the Pennzoil 400, Logano once again claimed the pole position in the #22 Team Penske Dark Horse, reaffirming Ford’s prowess. Despite this, Chevrolet leads the manufacturers’ points table, courtesy of William Byron’s Daytona 500 victory in the Hendrick Motorsports #24 car and Daniel Suarez’s historic win at a razor-thin 0.003-second finish in the #99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
