

According to recent reports, NASCAR might be moving the Watkins Glen races after not getting a positive response from the state authorities. The NASCAR racing action will return at Watkins Glen International on the 15th-16th August weekend.
NASCAR Journalist Adam Stern reveals in a tweet that NASCAR top bosses are skeptical that the New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo will grant the series a quarantine waiver. He reports that NASCAR will move the proposed races to some track in the Southeast.
Additionally, New York will enter the Phase 3 of reopening any will decrease restrictions from businesses systematically. However, NASCAR and other sporting activities are not in the Phase 3 list.

He wrote, “NASCAR industry execs are increasingly skeptical that @NYGovCuomo will grant the sport a quarantine waiver for the August @WGI weekend, which would put that race in serious doubt. If the WGI weekend was canceled, @NASCAR could move the Cup race to a roval in the Southeast.”

Watkins Glen excited about the return of NASCAR racing
Watkins Glen track president Michael Printup spoke in an interview with AP News. In the interview, he expressed his excitement for the return of racing. He said, “We think we have a pretty good plan on being able to allow a limited number of fans,”
After that, he adds, “Everybody is excited about getting back in the saddle. I know we are. We had some people on furlough and we were able to bring back almost every single person, so that’s good. It’s good to get the activity going, get the track hot.”

Additionally, track management has urged the New York state government to give some relaxation. They have asked them to allow ‘locals from within 150 miles of the track to attend the race’.
