Kyle Larson is reigning his fans’ hearts at the moment with an early-year win at Las Vegas. He dominated most of the Pennzoil 400 race and seized the attention. Now his prevailing popularity seems to be growing wings. Larson’s fanbase is expanding from NASCAR and venturing into the IndyCar racing series.

Kyle Larson’s IndyCar stint this year will not be any average attempt. In May, he will compete in the Indianapolis IndyCar 500 and then board a plane to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 race. This spellbinding feat has been attempted before only by a few racers. That is why Dale Earnhardt Jr is all praises for the leaps and bounds that Kyle Larson is taking in the motorsport world.

The Double has been attempted by five drivers before Larson’s upcoming stint. Yet there has been a decade-long gap since the last racer attempted this tiring feat. Kurt Busch last tried in 2014, finishing an impressive sixth as a 500 rookie before finishing 40th in the 600 later that evening. The other drivers include Davy Jones (1995), Robby Gordon (five times in 1997, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2004), and Tony Stewart (twice in 1999 and 2001).

Dale Earnhardt Jr recently commended Kyle Larson. In a recent episode of Dale Jr Download, he said,“Regardless of whether you are a Larson fan or not, I think if you’re a NASCAR fan, you wanna see him go do well. Me personally, I want him to go there and have a great, great Indy 500. And I think it adds to his own legacy, right.”

Dale Jr also did not shy away from raising him to the ‘greatest’ drivers’ pedestal. “We’re trying to say he’s the greatest driver in the world today, he’s in that conversation. A run in Indy, that’s a top-five, top-three run even would absolutely add to that conversation, man. You know, Foyt, Andretti, and those guys, Tony Stewart, all those guys, were able to go do those things.”

Tony Stewart indeed stands out among all the drivers. He is completed all 1,100 combined miles of both races in a single day. As a cherry on top, Stewart also managed to get the top 10 and top 5 positions: finishing 6th at IndyCar and 3rd at Coca-Cola. He emphasized the tiring conditions of the ordeal, saying.“When you’re done with the 600, after running Indy and the flight and helicopter rides and police escorts and all that during the day, you’re very, very content to lay your head on a pillow.”

Kyle Larson has also completed his test session for the IndyCar 500 in Phoenix, showcasing that achieving wins isn’t a pipe dream.

Kyle Larson started off his IndyCar journey last year in the rookie orientation at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This year, he enrolled in a seven-hour test session in February, going through five different sets of tires and logging roughly 200 miles. His post-test verdict showed the level of comfort he holds in IndyCar racing.

“Overall, I was pleased to get the test in. Great, great conditions with the weather yesterday. I thought it went smooth. It was good to run through some things, get comfortable out there making laps, but get to do some pit stop sort of stuff. Got loose at one point and almost spun out, so that was good to kind of feel the limit there at slower speeds.”
