It’s no secret that one of the biggest issues drivers face when competing in motorsports is funding. Aspiring drivers and teams often have to pay out of their own pockets during the initial stages, but after a point, self-sponsorships become impossible without corporate funding. Things are tough for drivers even after consistent performances and championship titles in NASCAR-sanctioned competitions, as Treyten Lapcevich recently figured out.
Not long ago, the 19-year-old became the champion of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. With 29 races in the Pinty’s Series so far in his career along with 5 wins and a whopping 23 top-10 finishes, Lapcevich is not new to the sport. But despite showcasing promising potential, Lapcevich has had to come face to face with a unique problem.

Treyten Lapcevich exposes age-old issue with motorsports
Treyten Lapcevich recently took part in the iconic Snowball Derby. After winning the Pinty’s Series, the 19-year-old revealed that he had a lot of momentum and excitement for the iconic short-track event. However, things did not go to plan as he only managed a P24 finish, just behind the likes of William Byron and Noah Gragson.
After the race, Lapcevich was asked by Frontstetch about his plans for the 2024 season. While a lot of fans might have expected the fast, young NASCAR champion to already have a deal locked in by now, that was not the case. The 19-year-old revealed that nothing was confirmed yet and the biggest problem was getting corporates from his home country to invest in him.
“We’re not quite sure yet. I doubt I’ll make a return to the Pinty Series. The hope is that we’re able to do more races down south here. It’s just, funding’s the issue, especially being from Canada. It’s hard to get those corporate Canadian sponsors to want to come and support me in the States too, so it’s tough. We’re all in, there was a lot of work putting this together to come down just for the Snowball here but I’m not sure what next year has in the cards just yet, it usually comes together late but we’ll see,” the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s champion said.

Lapcevic had expressed the same concern earlier as well, before taking part in the Snowball Derby. The newly rebranded NASCAR Canada Series could have been a viable option, but the lack of funding has almost ruled out any chance of that happening.

NASCAR Pinty’s champion reveals 3 years of struggle for funds
Stuck in this unfavourable turn of events, the 19-year-old is looking for racing opportunities in the States. He might have won the Pinty’s title but Lapcevich revealed the off-track struggles he and his team had to experience for the last three years just to be able to get through whole seasons.
“There are opportunities for me to go South, and opportunities for me to return to the Pinty’s Series as well. But it wasn’t a secret at the start of this last season that we didn’t have enough funding to complete the full year. It’s been difficult the last three years, really. We’ve been grinding hard to get sponsors,” the driver said as per TobyChristie.com.
