NASCAR President Steve Phelps Teases Exciting Update on New Broadcasting Deal

As NASCAR enters a new era, there has been a lot of focus on TV and broadcasting rights in NASCAR. President Steve Phelps spoke about what to expect from the broadcast deals in the future and how this will affect the sport. Of course, he did admit that the details were a little hushed up, and he could only reveal so much.

He said, “This is probably something I’m not supposed to talk about. I think that our kind of window opens in 2023, to have discussions, and they are exclusive with Fox and NBC. I don’t think I’m giving anything away there, so that’s really it. I think, like most properties we want to give ourselves the time necessary in order to strike the right deal. Again, as I said before, for us its really about making sure that we’re delivering what we need to deliver. I think 2022 is going to be the best year that NASCAR has ever had on television in a long, long time. That really bodes well as we go into negotiations.”

How has the 2022 NASCAR Cup season been so far?

So far, just two races have taken place, with the first one at the Los Angeles Coliseum, and last weekend at Daytona. The LA Coliseum race gave fans a bit of a teaser of what to expect for the coming season. However, the Daytona 500 was the true indication of how the season could be expected to pan out.

So far, the Penske Fords have drawn first blood, with Joey Logano winning at the Coliseum. Then, Austin Cindric followed it up with a victory at the Daytona 500. Cindric’s feat was pretty impressive, since he is just a rookie, and this was his first full-time start. It just goes to show that the Ford cars seem to be adapting the best out of the three manufacturers. It will be fascinating to see how the season plays out from here.
