After an enthralling race at the Bristol Motor Speedway, fans have been eagerly waiting for the next NASCAR event at a short track which will take place this weekend at the Richmond Raceway. The Next-Gen car has usually been atrocious to race on short tracks, but the tire wear factor at Bristol made it one of the best races on a track, in a very long time. Will Richmond be able to serve up a masterpiece of similar standards this weekend? We’ll have to wait till the 31st of this month to find out!

A highly anticipated action-packed NASCAR weekend is on the cards

This weekend, there will be no Truck race at the venue, and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race will take its place. The two practice sessions for the event will take place on Friday at 12:45 pm ET and 2 pm ET respectively, followed by the qualifying session at 4:30 pm ET. None of these sessions will have TV coverage but the Whelen Modified race will be streamed on Flo-Racing and MRN at 6:30 pm ET. That takes us to Saturday, where the focus will be on the Xfinity Series.

Practice, qualifying, and the ToyotaCare 250 will be televised on FS1 and the race will also receive coverage from MRN and SiriusXM. Practice will be at 8:35 am ET, followed by qualifying at 9:05 am ET. The Xfinity Series race will be the last action of the day which will start from 1:30 pm ET.

Saturday will also see the practice and qualifying sessions for the Cup Series race at 10:30 am ET and 11:15 am ET respectively on FS1. The attention will then shift to Sunday, where the best stock car racing athletes will take part in the Toyota Owners 400. The event is set to start at 7 pm ET and will be televised on FOX. Tickets for the events have mostly sold out but for those still looking to attend the race, they can be booked on Richmond Raceway’s official website, richmondraceway.com. The Cup Series tickets might already have been sold out but there is a good chance of availing the Xfinity of Whelen Modified Tour race tickets.

The Richmond race is going to be special for a number of reasons. NASCAR is coming back to the iconic track for the first time in a long time on the night of Easter as Bristol used to take that spot usually. It’s safe to say that this new development seems to have left a lot of people excited. To add to that, even the race’s schedule is going to contribute a lot to its viewership numbers, as the race timings this weekend will be in line with when most of the country turns on their television.

This season has seen a steady increase in the viewership numbers for NASCAR. Evidently, COTA marked the fifth straight venue where that happened in the Cup Series. The fact that the Toyota Owners 400 has a prime time slot of 7 pm on FOX makes it a fantastic prospect for those involved with the network and the track. Talking about how this time slot will benefit the sport, Track president Lori Collier Waran seemed to be looking forward to the big event.

“It is on the national stage on a night like Easter. And we’re not talking about afternoon hours. It’s prime time, and that’s pretty special,” Waran had said earlier as per a report in Richmond Times-Dispatch.

After the Bristol race, there is a lot to be excited about and fans will be waiting with bated breath to see how things turn out in Virginia. As far as viewership is concerned, it may just be one of the most successful nights NASCAR has had in recent times due to the timing and the build-up to the event.
