NASCAR News: Ross Chastain’s Truck Series Venture Will See Him Partner With a New Crew Chief

Ross Chastain is returning to his roots in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series but with a twist. The ‘Melon Man’ with four Cup Series wins under his belt, will join forces in rotation with veteran Johnny Sauter and rising talents Kaden Honeycutt and Connor Mosack to pilot the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado for Niece Motorsports in the 2024 season.

Niece Motorsports also revealed their 2024 crew chief lineups, merging experience and fresh perspectives into their three Chevy’ trucks. Veteran Mike Hillman Jr. takes the helm of the #41 entry, guiding Bayley Currey towards podium finishes. Jon Leonard returns to the organization to lead the #42 with Matt Mills behind the wheel.

The most intriguing pairing arguably comes with #45 of Ross Chastain. Seasoned crew chief Phil Gould, known for his success in various series, joins forces with Chastain for his five-race stint. This unexpected partnership between a star driver and a veteran leader has fans buzzing with anticipation. Gould’s expertise and Chastain’s raw talent could very well be a winning combination.

Niece Motorsports took to Twitter to officially unveil the crew chief lineup for their 2024 trucks.

The melon farmer from Alva is set to command the #45 Silverado at Circuit of the Americas, Darlington Raceway, North Wilkesboro Speedway, Pocono Raceway, and Indianapolis Raceway Park.

The top officials of Niece Motorsports are beyond delighted to welcome back the Cup star. Not only that, but the drivers also show great enthusiasm for the upcoming races.

From joining in 2018 for the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway to clinching four victories including Niece and Chastain’s inaugural win in the Trucks Series at the Kansas Speedway in 2019, Chastain’s history with the team runs deep.

The General Manager of Niece Motorsports, Cody Efaw, also emphasized Chastain’s significance, stating in a recent release from Jayski, “Ross means a lot to our organization, and we’re appreciative that he continues to come back and race with us.”

With the season opener at Daytona approaching, the anticipation is relentless. Johnny Sauter, set to make his first start with Niece, exclaimed in the same release, “I’m appreciative to everyone at Niece Motorsports for the chance to get back behind the wheel and start the season at Daytona. I’m ready to go racing, and I know [crew chief] Phil [Gould] and this Niece Motorsports team are ready to get back on track too. We’re ready to compete for a win in Daytona.”
