NASCAR’s heading to another superspeedway this weekend, and it’s not just any track—it’s one of the biggest, scariest, and fastest out there. Expect a thrilling race at one of the most iconic arenas in the sport. Perhaps no track in NASCAR packs more speed, risk, or sheer excitement than this Alabama track. Last fall, the drama of Talladega Superspeedway was front and center when Ryan Blaney clinched his third Talladega win in a nail-biting photo finish, boosting his run to the Cup Series title. But remember, Kyle Busch was the last guy to take the checkered flag in April’s race last year. With HMS currently crushing it, everyone’s watching to see if Busch can shake things up this round.

But before we get on with the action, here’s everything you need to know before watching the highly-anticipated race!

Looks like the weather might try to rain on our parade, with some off-and-on showers expected on Saturday and a bit more of a downpour lined up for Sunday. However, it shouldn’t be an all-day event, so there’s still hope for getting the Geico 500 in. It’s going to be pretty chilly too —  think highs barely scraping 60 degrees and a brisk north wind to chill your bones.

So, here’s the lowdown for race day: Sunday might look partly cloudy with temps hovering around 65℉ by day and dipping to about 48℉ by night. Rain chances are pretty high at 74%, and sunset is pegged for 7:19 p.m. CT. Keep this in mind, ’cause the race schedule could change depending on how Mother Nature feels.

The NASCAR Cup Race at Talladega is set for April 21, 2024, at the Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama. The event is supposed to kick off at 3 p.m. ET. You can watch it live on Fox Sports, or if you’re on the road, tune in on MRN or SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. The Geico 500 is set for 188 laps, but they’re still figuring out the stage details. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather plays nice!

Besides that, the AG-PRO 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race is all set for Saturday, April 20, 2024, kicking off at 3 p.m. CT. Catch the action live on Fox Sports 1. As for the weather, Saturday might look up with a high of 79℉ and a low of 56℉ under partly cloudy skies. There’s a 54% chance of rain, with sunset slated for 7:19 p.m CT. Earlier in the day, the General Tire 200 NASCAR ARCA series race will also hit the track on the same Saturday, starting at 11:30 a.m. CT, and you can watch this too on Fox Sports 1.

Well, Hendrick Motorsports has been ruling the roost, scooping up five wins across three drivers, while Joe Gibbs Racing has snagged three wins, leaving slim pickings for the rest of the pack. Trackhouse Racing snagged a win too, thanks to Daniel Suarez’s nail-biter finish at Atlanta.

Hendrick’s Chevys have been dominating drafting tracks with five wins since the Next Gen car rolled out in 2022, including a win by Chase Elliott at Talladega that fall. On the flip side, it’s been a minute since a Gibbs Toyota took the top spot on a superspeedway—that last happened with Denny Hamlin at Talladega in fall 2020.

This weekend at Talladega Superspeedway levels the playing field, giving everyone else a shot at glory. It’s particularly crucial as it’s one of just two superspeedway races left before the playoffs kick off in September. This race could be a game-changer for the Ford teams, who haven’t won yet in 2024 but always bring their A-game to superspeedways. Remember, Fords won the last two superspeedway races last year and showed strong performances this season at Daytona and Atlanta too.

Also on the radar is William Byron, who could make some history. He’s got a shot at being the eighth driver to clinch a win at Talladega’s spring race following a Daytona victory. It’s been eighteen years since that’s happened, but the last two guys to pull it off—Jeff Gordon in 2005 and Jimmie Johnson in 2006—both drove for Hendrick Motorsports. So, who knows? Maybe lightning will strike again!
