NASCAR Update: Insider Trashes Speculations Surrounding Matt DiBenedetto’s AM Racing Signing Amidst Silly Season Drawing to a Close

In August 2023, Matt DiBenedetto announced that the end of his 2023 NASCAR Truck season would mark the conclusion of his contract with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team Rackley W.A.R. When the driver revealed he was “exploring all options in all series”, the statement gained a lot of traction in the community, with many speculating on his 2024 NASCAR team.
Adding to the notion, the 32-year-old driver shared a ‘pen emoji’ tweet, a couple of days after Christmas, showcasing that he signed with one of the teams on the grid, but nowhere clarified which team he’s going to. Still, many fans believed his new venture to be with AM Racing. Because of the far-fetched theories circling the community, a NASCAR insider decided to step up and clear the speculative air.

Before venturing into the Truck Series, DiBenedetto drove at the NASCAR Cup Series races from 2015 to 2021. During his seven years in the Cup Series, DiBenedetto contested nearly 250 races, but never clinched the P1 spot.
Unfortunately, the driver’s Cup series dreams took a backseat when, before the 2022 season, DiBenedetto’s team, Wood Brothers Racing, opted for Harrison Burton instead of Matt to run in the Cup Series. It left him without a Cup Series seat for the 2022 season, but at the same time, paved the way for his Truck Series shot.
His Truck Series operations were seemingly going smoothly, not to forget his first NASCAR win at Talladega Superspeedway which was his former team Rackley W.A.R.’s first win as well. However, the deal between them didn’t extend beyond 2023 and DiBenedetto had to sacrifice his seat for the remaining three races of the year.
While the community is under the belief that AM Racing’s next signing is Matt DiBenedetto, NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass has contrasting opinions as he unveiled his “surprised” feeling if DiBenedetto gets signed by AM Racing and wrote, “Still waiting on DiBenedetto announcement of plans. There are still two Cup cars (16 and the 15) that haven’t announced their driver(s) lineup. I would be surprised if AM Racing rumor is true.”

Pockrass made it clear that DiBenedetto is without any seat for the time being. Nevertheless, he couldn’t keep his astonishment suppressed as his comment portrayed his disbelief in the coming together of AM Racing and Matt DiBenedetto. But why?

When scouting for new drivers to take the wheel, NASCAR teams mostly look for young talent and a stable veteran to maintain a healthy balance between aptitude and experience.
For AM racing, one of the two seats was filled by Hailie Deegan when she officiated her 2024 Xfinity Series season. As for the other available seat, the team would definitely want someone experienced who could complement Deegan’s lack thereof. However, according to popular opinions, Matt DiBenedetto’s numerous exits from race teams, and a not-so-storied Cup Series stint, might be the complete opposite of what a stable driver means, which makes him a highly improbable option for AM Racing.
