The 2022 NASCAR Cup season is just four races in, but there are eyes turning to next season already. According to Vice President of Racing Development and Strategy, Ben Kennedy, the 2023 schedule could be announced soon. Admittedly, this comes as a bit of a surprise. This is because the sport usually reveals the coming year’s calendar by the fall season.

Kennedy said, “I think ideally we get to a point where we’re announcing it before September. But a lot of that really comes down to making sure all of our stakeholders are on board, and we have everything in place to have the right timing to make that announcement with the most impact.”

The late unveiling was mostly due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to that, NASCAR officials are working hard to try and add new venues to the calendar. Apparently, Kennedy was the main driving force behind NASCAR’s foray into the LA Coliseum earlier this year. Needless to say, the move was a stroke of genius, as it roped in strong attendance and TV audience. To further add to the spectacle, there were many entertainment stars who turned up for the event.

What lies ahead in the future for NASCAR?

According to reports, NASCAR’s deadline to confirm the Coliseum’s return is May 6. Kennedy revealed that discussions are currently underway to see the venue return next year. This year though, the Cup Series will visit last year’s calendar newcomers for the second time.

To be precise, the paddock heads to the Circuit of The Americas, Nashville Superspeedway, and Road America. In addition to that, there is another new venue, in the form of the World Wide Technology Raceway. Other alterations include adding dirt to the Bristol Motor Speedway and running on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. There were also whispers of a potential street race in Chicago.
