NASCAR World Jolted by Unfortunate Tragedy as Ty Gibbs Comes to Grips With Terrible Loss

Ty Gibbs was all set to end his season on another high with hopes of putting on a solid display a day after being crowned the NASCAR Xfinity Series champion. However, that wasn’t the case as it was reported that he was sitting out of the Phoenix Cup race.

The reason stated for his absence was ‘a family emergency’, which has now become very unfortunate news, only a few hours later.

Coy Gibbs, the father of Ty Gibbs and the son of Coach Joe Gibbs, has tragically passed away at the age of 49.

“It is with great sorrow that Joe Gibbs Racing confirms that Coy Gibbs (co-owner) went to be with the Lord in his sleep last night. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time,” a statement from JGR read.

What was the reaction of Coy Gibbs on Ty Gibbs winning the NASCAR Xfinity title?

Speaking after Ty Gibbs took the checkered flag on Saturday to secure a stellar season with the best possible ending, winning the Xfinity Series title, Coy Gibbs acknowledged how his son had overcome the mistake he made in Martinsville.

“When you start this day, you just want to get it over with, you just want to get past it,” he said. “I think he’s just doubled down and did his job after making a huge mistake last week. It was fun to watch.”

Gibbs himself admitted that no matter how sorry he is, nothing can be fixed now. But the young driver did take some solace in the fact that he won the championship after all as he admitted the need to fix some things.

“I’ve got to fix my actions. I felt like today I had a good race, felt like I made some good moves,” he added.
