NASCAR Xfinity Series 2020 Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway: Preview

After an unpredictable season, the NASCAR Xfinity Series has got its Championship 4 drivers. In the end, it’s all downcomes down to a showdown between Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, and Justin Allgaier. The quartet has been so dominant that they have a combined tally of 20 wins out of 32 Xfinity races in 2020.

“You never know what your three other competitors are going to do for a win,” Allgaier said. “You never know what the other drivers on the racetrack are willing to do for a win.

“It’s the last race of the year. Everybody wants to end on a high note before we take the winter break to go to Daytona. So I think that’s the kicker of all of us for me is just the unknowns.”

It is worth noting that this is Briscoe’s last shot at the Xfinity title because he is moving up to the Cup Series. In addition to that, every time he has been in a season finale ahead of a move up to a new series, he has won.

So, with his impending move to the Cup Series in 2021, he will be keen to keep up the streak.

Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Justin Haley, Justin Allgaier – The NASCAR Xfinity Series contenders

Kicking things off is Justin Allgaier, who leads the championship standings and starts on pole. The 34-year-old has notched up 3 wins for JR Motorsports in the 2020 season, at Dover and two at Richmond.

In terms of his Phoenix form, he finished 13th when the paddock raced there in March. In addition to that, he has 2 wins at the track, including 1 in the 2019 season. The driver also knows that he has performed well at Phoenix, so he is quite confident ahead of the 2020 finale.

Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe will definitely be one of the favorites. The Stewart-Haas driver has amassed an astounding 9 wins in the 2020 season. This includes 2 at Las Vegas, Darlington, Miami, Pocono, Indianapolis Road Course, Dover, Bristol, and Kansas.

Briscoe also possesses a decent record at the Phoenix Raceway, with 3 consecutive Top-10s, including 2 6th placed finishes.

Admittedly, he could have been a lot higher during his last visit, but a pit lane mishap ruined it. Although it may not be a favored track, Chase Briscoe is in fine form.

The next candidate is Austin Cindric, who has 5 wins in the 2020 Xfinity season. This year, the Penske driver boasts of 2 wins at Kentucky and a win each at Texas, Road America, and the Daytona Road Course.

In terms of his Phoenix repertoire, it will play host to his 100th Xfinity start. Cindric boasts of 4 consecutive Top-10s at Phoenix, including the best finish of 4th in 2018.

Finally, 21-year-old Justin Haley is the 4th protagonist has had 3 wins in the 2020 season. 2 of those wins came at Talladega while the other came at Daytona.

Out of the quartet, he seems to be the dark horse, as he has a best finish of 5th, though it is the best among the other title contenders.

Haley has a point to prove to people who believe that he does not deserve to be in the Final 4. However, he knows that he worked just as hard as anyone else to reach the endgame.
