Dale Earnhardt Jr recently played his part in a Twitter banter that proved why he’s such a popular figure in the NASCAR community despite being out of the racecar (on a regular basis) for several years now. The thing is, Steve Luvender, who handles NASCAR’s social media, posted a “development in the making” on his Twitter.

“on my way to start some racing rumors,” Luvender tweeted, which got retweeted by Dale Jr.

Dale Jr’s retweet precedes the official announcement of Jordan Taylor

Perhaps retweeting Luvender’s “rumors” was Junior’s way of hinting that Jordan Taylor was indeed joining the CARS Tour. Because a few hours after this tweet, journalist Bob Pockrass announced Taylor would indeed be joining the CARS Tour.

In fact, Taylor will run at the North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 17—a race in which Dale Jr is also competing. Taylor, who has never run a race on an oval, opened up about his excitement in this new chapter of his career.

“I can’t wait for next week,” Taylor said as per FloRacing. “I’ve been getting to know the stock car world a bit more over the past few years being involved with different programs, but that’s all been on the road course side of things.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr opens up about the driver NASCAR needs more of

In a recent episode of his podcast, Dale Jr opened up about NASCAR’s need for more personalities like Ross Chastain, who he claims is “lightning at this point.”

“Ross is all about him, I guess in a selfish way, but you can’t fault him for it. He’s worked really hard to put himself in this position, and he’s not going to give up anything to lose it … If you can’t handle it, you can’t handle it,” Junior said.

“Ross is that I-don’t-care-I’m-not-here-to-make-friends guy that we need in the sport.”

Junior remarked that NASCAR has “lacked some of that”. The Hall of Famer also claimed that there’s a “bit of a throwback” in the way Chastain races which is as if “he’s not getting a check.”

“He doesn’t give an inch, and we need a lot of guys out there like that. The more, the better,” he added.
