Berry, a part-time driver for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series, stunned the field and grabbed a late lead. He then held off pressure from teammate Noah Gragson and Daniel Hemric to win on Sunday evening at Martinsville Speedway.

As soon as the race was over, Dale Jr. let out his emotions. In a tweet, Dale Jr. admitted that he cried a lot after watching Berry take the chequered flag.

Berry has had a challenging racing career over the years, but Dale Jr. showed great faith in him and gave him chances at JR Motorsports.

He is also the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series defending champion with Dale Jr’s team and is a late model star.

However, this is his biggest win, and Dale Jr. was absolutely over the moon. “I’ve never cried like I cried today over racing…I just wanted it so bad for Josh,” Dale Jr. said in a post-race media interaction.

With 29 laps to go, Berry took the lead from youngster Ty Gibbs and held his nerve thereafter. Dale Jr. revealed that he hasn’t been so nervous before, not even when he himself or his father raced in the past in such tense situations.

My heart was beating so fast. I’ve never felt that way … not when I raced or when my dad raced. … I peaked around the corner when he got the white,” he added.

“Lot of emotion involved”

The former superstar driver explained that one tends to look at a race win a lot differently as a team owner than as a driver themselves. As a driver, he had to quickly turn up for the next race and do it all over again.

However, as an owner, it is the ‘big picture’ and the success of the entire organization that he needs to look at.

“I could see Josh’s whole career in front of me and how he got to this moment. There’s a lot of emotion involved,” Dale Jr. expressed further.

Berry’s win is a great result for Dale Jr’s team JR Motorsports. The driver thanked Dale Jr., Kelly Earnhardt, and everyone associated with the team for giving him the chance.
