The NASCAR world is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and in doing so, they surprised twenty-five drivers from the community. In case you are unaware, twenty-five years ago, NASCAR celebrated its 50 years and came up with a 50 Greatest NASCAR Drivers of All Time list. Now, in 2023, as they complete 75 years, they decided to add 25 more names to that list, bumping the number up to 75 drivers. As fans of these legends, we have been quite happy seeing their name in the glorious list. However, there are people who are happier. And they are the family of these veterans.

Recently, as her son’s name was added to the list, Denny Hamlin‘s mother made an emotional admission about the #11 driver’s transformation.

This Cup Series season began like a roller coaster ride for JGR driver, but he earned his first Cup Series victory for 2023 at the Kansas Speedway. While he was on cloud nine for his win, he received another surprise with his name being added to the 75 Greatest Drivers list. Though he has built an empire worth $65 million and comes off as someone with a bold personality, he also has a soft side to him. He never misses a chance to be a great dad for his daughters, even though it would make him uncomfortable.

Denny Hamlin’s mother shares a moment that made her proud

Denny Hamlin did a special Mother’s Day episode on his ‘Actions Detrimental’ podcast. He had a special guest on the show. You guessed it. It was his mother! In a small clip from the podcast, shared on Dirty Mo Media’s Instagram page, we see Hamlin’s mother share how proud she is of her son’s growth.

While Hamlin always wanted to be a race car driver, she, as a parent, always hoped that he gets the best of opportunities and “be one of them.” 

Talking about his transformation, she shared, “Never did we ever think about what, you know, winning a Daytona 500, much less winning three Daytona 500. Never crossed our mind that he’d be one of the top 75 drivers of all time. Just it amazes me, and it amazes me the person that he has become. From that kid that didn’t want to go to school, didn’t want to study and now that’s all he does. I mean he studies everything. He has made us very very proud.”

Hamlin, giving all his efforts to the one thing he ever wanted to be, has certainly made Mama Hamlin proud. Meanwhile, he credited his parents and said, “I’m here because of the sacrifices that my parents made. So thank you.”

Fans were moved after listening to Mary Lou Hamlin’s heartfelt words for her son. It seems that along with Mama Hamlin, they too got emotional about his evolution. They praised his mother and shared a few sweet words for her in the comments.
