Earlier, Hendrick Motorsports crew chief Greg Ives was unhappy with the driving standards at Indianapolis. He deemed it unprofessional, and he had every right to be angry after Alex Bowman got knocked out of the race. Now, he has another person backing his opinions, Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief James Small. His driver, Martin Truex Jr was another person who fell victim to the aggressive tactics from drivers.

He said, “You know you see a little bit on the ovals. Then obviously on road courses now, there’s just no consequences for anybody who drive like that.”

“Even with the old car, if you ran into somebody, you’d get a tire rub cause the body would bend. You’d kind of do yourself damage, but now people can just not use their brains drive like idiots and get away with it.”

“It’s frustrating, it’s not really racing, it looks stupid on TV. The way its trended with the younger people coming in the sport. I don’t think you’d see guys like Martin or Harvick. Those kind of guys, Denny, doing things like that.”

“Anyway, it is what it is, it’s what racing is, and obviously we’re going to keep having road course races and we’ll probably keep seeing that stuff.”

There were some who disagreed with the Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief

Of course, some drivers vehemently defended themselves from such comments. One such person was Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Team Penske Ford. According to him, if all the drivers played nice with each other, then it eliminates the entertainment for the fans. He also believes that there is supposed to be an element of respect between drivers.

However, Logano did acknowledge that he believes in the policy of ‘an eye for an eye’. The #22 driver is of the opinion that fans do not want to see drivers just get along on the track. They are hoping to see plenty of track action, battles, rivalries, and drama.
