NASCAR has recently found itself in a weird spot. They penalized Hendrick Motorsports and Kaulig Racing heavily for violating the rules. Then they did something which hasn’t been done a lot when they penalized Denny Hamlin for admitting to wrecking someone with a points penalty and a big fine.

Of course, the HMS penalty was modified, much to the anger of the fans, but the fate of Hamlin’s penalty is still to be decided as the veteran announced he’d be appealing it.

But if NASCAR spotters Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft are to be believed, the penalty shouldn’t have been what it was in the first place.

NASCAR spotter on why Denny Hamlin has a never seen before penalty

Speaking in a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Brett Griffin pointed toward the potentially bizarre event which would be that only Denny Hamlin ends up losing points for everything that has happened in the last few weeks after HMS’ penalty was modified to be only fine.

“No driver, to my knowledge, has ever lost points for wrecking somebody,” Griffin said. “So what makes Denny the fall guy for losing points?”

“It’s because he has a podcast, and because he has a platform. Why in the f**k is Denny Hamlin the only guy to lose points for wrecking somebody?”

Griffin described the potential scene of Hamlin’s penalty appeal hearing in which he’ll walk into a room of three people and tell them, “This is unprecedented.

“And they all look at each other and go, ‘You know what, it is unprecedented’. And then those three people will decide whether or not they’ll let an unprecedented fine stand,” he added.

Bubba Wallace’s spotter thinks NASCAR messed up with the Hamlin penalty

After Brett Griffin made his point, Wallace’s spotter also defended his boss as he opened on the way in which NASCAR messed up with the penalty. “I think NASCAR screwed up Denny’s penalty,” he said.

“All they had to say was, ‘This guy admitted to wrecking somebody on the podcast.'”

Kraft added that if NASCAR would’ve said that, Hamlin wouldn’t have had a compelling case for an appeal. “But then they went he manipulated the race, he did this, he did that..everybody manipulates the race,” the spotter claimed. “Everybody on the racetrack is trying to manipulate the race in their favor every week.”

With that said, do you think Denny Hamlin will also receive the Hendrick Motorsports treatment and have his penalty modified? Or do you think he never deserved it in the first place?
