“Nothing compares to the opportunity to race for a legendary team like Richard Childress Racing,” said the 18-year-old sensation after getting the ride of his life, jumping over to the Xfinity Series, taking on the full-time opportunity, following his ARCA domination where he snagged the 2023 title. The young gun was riding on high hopes, qualifying for Daytona with the faster time on the pole.
However, what started as an incredible debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series has slowly devolved into a disaster for Jesse Love. The series opener, United Rentals 300, much like other events before it, also witnessed a massive pileup involving multiple cars. And one among them was Love, who was leading the pack for 32 laps after starting strong at the front.
Following the unfortunate incident, the youngster detailed his disappointing Daytona debut. Speaking to Fronstretch, Love opened up about the events that unraveled in the race.

Richard Childress’ newfound sensation, Jesse Love reacts to his Daytona debut at United Rentals 300
Taking over the driver duty from Sheldon Creed in the #2 Chevy was reigning and defending ARCA Menards champion Jesse Love. After a series of ugly spats with the team and teammates, Creed was let go with the boss-man Childress going against the driver. Consequently, the RCR higher-ups locked in on ARCA champion Jesse Love, roping him as the replacement, and handing him a full-time role.
The community was thrilled to see the phenom make his Daytona debut in NASCAR’s second-tier faction for Childress. And the driver did shine, showing his mettle. In his very first Daytona ride, he snatched the pole and led the field in the opening 32 laps of the United Rentals 300 from the pole position, just inside the top 10.
The field reared its fangs further into the race and the #2 Chevy got hooked on the right rear by John Hunter Nemechek. This contact triggered a multi-car wreck that collected several other drivers, including AJ Allmendinger, Shane van Gisbergen, Sage Karam, his RCR teammate Austin Hill, Frankie Muniz, Anthony Alfredo, Josh Williams, and several others.
Reflecting on the race, the 18-year-old showed true class, not pointing fingers, not spilling emotions. Instead, the 18-year-old proved that he is much more mature than most older drivers in the series. He said, “I was pretty pumped about that and then, uh, I don’t know what happened. Yet I guess it could have been a bad push from the 20. That’s the only thing that makes sense in my mind.”
“Then I was spun around so not really sure what happened. I got to look at the video before I point fingers or anything. Maybe I got to point fingers at myself; I’m not sure yet,” said the driver.
He then added, “I definitely couldn’t lead. We tried that and every pit I was like, oh boy, it’s going to be fun and it wasn’t. We obviously lost the lead pretty quick after the damage. I mean it’s pretty torn up but we were still good enough to hang around the draft and I thought we probably would have slipped in the top 10 there. Obviously, nobody wanted to push me, you know, late in the race with how much damage we had. And I don’t blame him… got to have a prettier car for the end,” he added.

It was no easy walk in the park for Hill who had to overcome a myriad of issues throughout the race – from an early crash to issues on pit road – to hold off former teammate Sheldon Creed by 0.591 seconds for the win. On the other hand, Love, who struggled to find the rhythm after the early tangle, found his way across the finish line, finishing the race 20th.
