In a rather surprising turn of events, after the 2022 Cup season, Kyle Busch, the ‘bad boy of NASCAR’ changed lanes and left Joe Gibbs Racing to join Richard Childress Racing. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion signed for the team back in December in a move that really took the wind out of most fans and critics alike. This was majorly due to the fact that Kyle is known for his on and off-track antics. And this includes the incident where he got into a serious altercation with the owner of Richard Childers Racing, Richard Childress himself.

In a recent interview with Mike Wallace, Richard Childress opened up about the current situation at RCR. On the podcast, he spoke his mind on many things, including racing scenes back in his days, the dramatic altercation with Kyle, and the events that led to the signing of Busch.

Richard Childress recalls his conversation with grandson about hiring Kyle Busch
While the veteran is also known for his notorious altercation with the ‘Rowdy’ back in 2011 where he punched Kyle in the face multiple times when the then #18 driver bumped into Childress’ #22 truck during the cooldown lap.
Speaking to Mike Wallace, Richard mentions how his grandson Austin paved Kyle’s way into Richard Childress Racing. The former racer recalled Austin asking, “Hey pops, what do you think of Kyle Busch? Joe (Joe Gibbs) haven’t done a contract yet, could you go talk to him?”

How Kyle Busch and Richard Childress buried the hatchet?
Richard even talked about how Austin had Kyle come up to the airport for the negotiations. The team owner said, “We talked about our past, 100% behind us and we’re not gonna bring that up, that’s history. You learn from a lot of things and I grew up, I’m sure he did. We both put that behind us, now we look at our future.”
