Kyle Busch’s career at Richard Childress Racing got off to a much better start than anyone had expected. After 15 years with Joe Gibbs Racing, fans believed that Busch might struggle a bit with a new team but the veteran started the season strong as he consistently challenged for race wins throughout the season. Of late, however, it seems like Busch and RCR’s form has been falling as they have not even come close to finishing in the top five in the last three Cup Series races. Rowdy finished 14th at Watkins Glen, 36th at Indianapolis, and did not finish the race at Michigan. As it turns out, Busch himself believes that his luck has run out.
Speaking to the media before the race at Watkins Glen, Busch was asked by a reporter about what was going wrong with him in the race car and if he knew what to do to fix it. In an answer that surprised a lot of fans, the veteran racer revealed that he had no clue as to how things were going as badly as they were recently and that he did not know how to fix things and get his season on track.

There Is Luck, Says Kyle Busch on Recent Struggles
“I was curious, is it things where you guys know you need to be doing better and you’re not executing or there are things you’re genuinely not sure that you’re doing right anymore, but it sounds like, like you said, it’s a little bit of both,” Busch was asked by a reported at the pre-race press conference.
“I think more so came from the frustration of just life in general and luck and karma and whatever all the rest of that stuff is. I just don’t know anymore. I don’t know what to do to change it. I have no idea. There is all the rabbit’s feet and all the four leaf clovers and everything else like you know, a lot of people say they don’t believe in luck. There is luck, trust me. I know,” Rowdy answered.
Busch proceeded to say that he felt like he had used up all of the good luck in the earlier stages of the season and now was the time to “pay the price.”
“I’ve been in this for a long time that it’s….we had four-five weeks where we had really good luck. Like we stuffed it in the tyre barriers, we didn’t break a radiator or anything like that at the Chicago street race, we came back and we finished fifth like that was a lucky day. Like we stole one on that one, you know what I mean? So, it’s just stuff that, we kind of burned all that up there and now we’re paying the price for it over here so it’s like, how do you turn it around and get it back heading in the right direction,” Rowdy added.
The veteran also spoke about the times he had similar conversations with other drivers about what to do when one is in a bit of a slump, referring to Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth.
“And I’ve had talks like this with Kenseth before and Carl before where you go winless seasons and you wonder what’s not working and there’s nothing that you can pinpoint yourself to,” Busch continued.

The former Cup Series champion said that he had a similar discussion with fellow NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr as well. Last season, Truex was not one of the best on the track and his rise to the top of the driver’s championship table this season has been extraordinary.

Busch spoke about how Truex’s massive rise from the miseries of the 2022 season proved that there was an element of luck involved in NASCAR and that one just has to be patient and weather the storm that is bad luck.

“Truex, him and I talked about it before where it’s like, man you just gotta wait, you just gotta wait till it turns around and eventually it’ll turn around and it’ll be fine, you know. I guess you look at Truex, you know, the struggles of last year and his turn around for this season,” he said.
However, as we have seen before from the veteran, Kyle Busch is not a very patient man and he acknowledged that in the press conference as he looks to get himself back on track ahead of the playoffs.
“It’s not like they’re wrong but I’m a very impatient person and I’m ready for the results to be indicative of how I know they should be,” Rowdy added.
