For those who’ve been glued to the drama unfolding in the world of Team Penske, they know it’s been a messy journey. It all kicked off at Talladega, where tempers flared, harsh words were thrown, and an unexpected feud with MLB legend Chipper Jones added fuel to the fire. During the Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega, Joey Logano was in the heat of the race, battling for a stage win. But when Austin Cindric slowed down and chose not to give Logano a push forward, allowing 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace to pass and costing Logano the stage, Logano lost it. His frustration boiled over on the team radio, and FOX aired his explosive rant: “Way to go Austin. You dumba–. He just gave it to him. Gave Toyota a stage win. Nice job.”

The fallout didn’t stop there. Logano’s day went from bad to worse when he was disqualified after finishing fifth due to a technical violation involving a missing rear spoiler bolt, dropping him to last in the official results. Meanwhile, Cindric stayed focused and clinched the race win, ending a 30-race drought. But the tension between the teammates lingered. Enter Chipper Jones, the Baseball Hall of Famer and Atlanta Braves icon, who decided to weigh in on the drama.

Austin Cindric shares inside scenes from the Team Penske office

Jones, a longtime NASCAR fan, criticized Joey Logano’s outburst. Jones wrote on X, “Good teammates are hard to come by,” and tagged Joey Logano for good measure. This didn’t sit well with the defending champion. On SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive,” Logano fired back: “Has Chipper Jones ever driven a race car at Talladega? I know nothing about baseball. That’s like me saying something he did in baseball was wrong.”

The back-and-forth kept fans on edge, but Jones later changed his tune after Logano’s impressive win at Texas Motor Speedway. He posted, “Congratulations to @joeylogano. A HOF driver with a masterful win. This is what NASCAR fans expect from you. Hard charging wins and gracious top 5s and 10s. Well done!”

Then came the moment that tied this whole saga together. Austin Cindric shared a selfie on X that had fans cheering. The photo showed him sitting at a desk with a laptop, wearing glasses and an Atlanta Braves hat, smiling brightly. Behind him sat Logano, dressed in a red Team Penske shirt, giving a thumbs-up with a grin. Cindric captioned it, “We are so back! @joeylogano.” The image screamed unity, and that Braves hat? It felt like a subtle dig at Jones, especially given the history. And to be honest, we should have seen this coming.

Austin Cindric was teasing about wearing the hat to a team meeting during his appearance on the Dale Jr. Download last week! After his win at Talladega and all the controversy that was surrounding Chipper Jones and Logano’s fiery barbs, Cindric told Dale Jr. “The thought crossed my mind, but it was not the right moment.” Well, after Logano redeemed himself and Jones acknowledged the success, it certainly does feel like the right moment.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Team Penske's unity last, or is another explosive feud just around the corner?

Have an interesting take?

Cindric had previously acknowledged Jones’ support during the feud, saying, “I appreciate the kind words from Chipper. It’s cool to have someone like him in my corner.” But this selfie, complete with Joey Logano‘s thumbs-up and Austin Cindric’s Braves cap, was more than reconciliation—it was a declaration. The Penske brothers were proving they’d moved beyond the theatrics, and they did so with a playful dig at Jones that had the crowd grinning. As of today, Cindric is 14th in the Cup Series with 219 points, and Logano is 11th with 246 points, showing they’re both still in the hunt.

Having lived through a week of madness, watching Joey Logano and Austin Cindric unite in this way comes as a sweet relief. They’ve demonstrated they can rebuild something stronger after the storm—and with a smile for good measure. What’s their next move, then? It’s anyone’s guess, but for now at least, these two have everyone in the world of NASCAR wanting to see more, and probably even laughing as they go about it.

Team Penske crew chief weighs in on Joey Logano’s Texas comeback

Joey Logano and Paul Wolfe’s incredible comeback at Texas Motor Speedway’s Würth 400 is one for the history books. After the crushing disqualification at Talladega for a spoiler violation, Paul’s heart was heavy. “We’re not proud of what happened,” he said in the post-race press conference. “It was nothing intentional.”

That DQ erased a season-best fifth-place finish, and you could feel the sting. But Paul, the winningest active Cup crew chief with 43 victories, wasn’t about to let it define them. Talladega was a wake-up call. Instead of appealing NASCAR’s ruling, he and Joey got to work. Paul poured everything into strategy, holding team meetings to turn pain into focus.

Wolfe added, “Obviously, wins heal a lot of things and fix a lot of problems… I’ve told all the guys in our meetings this week. We know what happened, or we have a pretty good idea what happened, and we need to make sure that doesn’t happen again and move forward.” Starting 27th—Joey’s deepest starting position for a win—they fought tooth and nail. Paul’s game strategy was perfection, leading Joey to command the last two circuits of the 271-lap race. It wasn’t just a victory; it was redemption, clinching Joey Logano’s playoff berth.
