The world had not seen anything like COVID-19, ever. In the past, there had been epidemics, there had been wars, and there had been the Great Depression. But the pandemic was something that brought uniformly and universally brought the whole world to a screeching halt. Some drivers like Joey Logano took it upon themselves to help people out in those difficult times.

Joey Logano belongs to Connecticut, but he resides in Charlotte, Florida. With the pandemic hitting everyone in 2020, the marginalized and underprivileged communities were badly affected by the economic implications. Logano was aware that he was well-endowed, and had the ability to lend a hand. Through the Joey Logano Foundation, and Bobbee O’s BBQ, he decided to help out with meals.

“We’re trying to think of all the meals some families relied on for their kids while they’re in school. That’s two meals a day for a lot of them. Now they have to absorb that cost as a family while maybe not having the income coming in on top of that. It’s going to be hard to make everything work … but you get laid off from your job and it’s not even your fault.”

Joey was also planning for a more widely spread relief operation by partnering up with delivery services in order to help more people. He said “I think some of it’s because people are scared to leave their house or they can’t afford to leave their house. Driving a car is not cheap either, right? So I think we have to make it as convenient as possible for people in this moment.”

What Logano did during a period that was unprecedented and truly inspirational. People like Logano are the reason mankind managed to scrape through that horrific period.

Joey Logano wasn’t alone – NASCAR collectively helped out

In those months that the pandemic forced everyone to stay within the four walls of their houses, and to take precautions – Logano wasn’t the only one from the NASCAR world who helped people out.

In a show of collective concern, NASCAR made its contributions too. Work at NASCAR’s Research and Technology Centre based out of North Carolina was halted. The Centre was tasked with producing and working on the Next-Gen car but instead was used for making personal protective devices against COVID-19.

Ford on the other hand tasked itself with producing 50,000 ventilators, and also lent its team of engineers, facilities, and machinery for the production of respirators. A similar goal was taken up by Toyota, while Chevrolet dedicated its resources towards the production of face masks and ventilators too.

Other teams and drivers also dedicated their resources to the production of face masks, face shields, respirators, ventilators, and other personal protective equipment. It included the likes of Brad Keselowski, Roush Fenway Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Team Penske (Joey Logano’s team), Stewart-Haas Racing, and others.
