Kevin Harvick might have been one of the most aggressive race car drivers during his younger days in NASCAR, but he sure knows how to have fun as well. The 2014 Cup Series champion has several stories that would make fans crack up and in a recent episode of his Happy Hour podcast, he shared one of them. This one includes Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Looney Toones, and falling off a golf cart while racing.

Kevin Harvick recalls his unforgettable Richmond pit road race

Turns out that back in the day, Looney Toones used to do a lot of promotional work with NASCAR and they got some of the biggest names in the sport to do it. Harvick, Johnson, and Gordon were three of the drivers chosen and as a part of the promotion, they raced golf carts on the pit road at Richmond Raceway. The race got pretty intense between the three champions. However, out of the blue, Jeff Gordon just slid right off his cart and fell; that was a hilarious moment for everyone present.

As Kevin revealed, “I remember one day we had a Looney Tunes promotion. It was myself, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and I don’t remember who else it was but we were racing gold karts on pit road. We probably have the footage of this somewhere here at FOX. We were racing golf carts and I’ll never forget it because racing, racing, racing, whoop! Jeff Gordon out of the other side of the golf cart. Dude fell out of the right side of the golf cart. That was pretty funny”.

Jeff Gordon had Bugs Bunny in the back seat while Jimmie Johnson had Sylvester the Cat. Gordon was on pole position and would have liked to take the lead on turn 1 but a video from the race reveals the then-Hendrick Motorsports driver falling out of his car and narrowly avoiding Johnson. Speaking about the incident, the 4-time Cup Series champion was not happy with the grip of his seat.

“Jimmie got a little jump on me, but I was beating him going into Turn 1. I wasn’t about to lift. Was more worried about Bugs falling off than myself. Next thing I know, that thing really hooked up. Unfortunately, the seat didn’t have near as much grip as tires did,” he had said at the time.
