Race: Bubba Wallace – NASCAR Driver Plays It Cool After Fiancee Pokes Fun on His Lack of Success

Many NASCAR fans recently got a good look inside the life of Bubba Wallace thanks to the Netflix docu-series Race: Bubba Wallace. The six-episode series covers the struggles and traumas of his past, his ‘more than a racecar driver’ role in the present, and the huge expectations he has in his future.

While this all sounds like a viewing experience high on emotions and sentiments, which it is more or less, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few laughs sprinkled here and there.

One such moment is between Bubba Wallace and his fiancee Amanda Carter.

In Episode 5, we see the 23XI Racing driver doing a household chore in his living room when he talks about his trophies in a self-deprecating yet optimistic manner.

“I’ve lost my edge. But these trophies say otherwise,” he says. “What year is that, ’14? Oh, that’s good,” Carter says as she pokes fun at him.

The (to be) Talladega winner laughs and clarifies, “This one’s 2020.”

Traumatic past became the reason for Bubba Wallace and his fiancee’s rough patch

In Episode 4 of the series, Amanda Carter opened up about the lingering effects of Bubba Wallace’s parents’ divorce as the reason for problems between them.

“We had a pretty rough patch in our relationship for about a year,” she said. “We were actually struggling in our relationship when he came to me and said how he was struggling mentally, and that was the first time.” 

“I definitely think a lot of it stems from his parents’ divorce,” Carter described. “He really cares about his relationship with his father, and it’s not there at the moment. “

She added how despite it being hard to watch, over the last couple of years, she has learned how to help him, how to calm him down, and bringing things “back to reality.”
