After losing to Denny Hamlin during the first race of the 2023 season, Ryan Newman was crowned the winner of SRX Racing’s second race at Stafford Motor Speedway. While Newman secured the win, SRX Racing co-founder Tony Stewart lagged behind.

Why did Tony Stewart warn Marco Andretti?

Beating Paul Tracy to the finish line, Tony Stewart won the 13-lap Heat 1 race. Eager to keep up with his win streak, Stewart’s luck ran out during Heat 2 as he lost multiple spots, finishing 10th. Fighting through the horde of drivers, the SRX co-owner then grabbed the 3rd spot during the final laps of the main event, sitting behind Ryan Newman in second and Daniel Suarez in first.

On lap 75 of the 80-lap main event, Ryan Newman passed Suarez on the inside line. Overtaking Greg Biffle and Marco Andretti, Tony Stewart was tailing in the fourth position. Approaching a turn, Andretti saw an opening on the inside line of Stewart and pounced upon a chance to overtake the #14 car. After successfully overtaking the #14 driver, Andretti then further pushed Smoke toward the outside wall, costing the latter multiple spots, ultimately finishing in seventh.

Speaking in a post-race interview, Smoke called out Andretti for his in-race actions saying, “Marco was good at the end, he likes to use the bumper a little bit. If you’re, when you watch this replay I’m gonna start using your a** up bud.”
