Shane van Gisbergen is one of the most exciting prospects of the NASCAR 2024 season. The Kiwi maestro made his debut in the 2023 Cup Series as a part of Trackhouse Racing Project91. In what was his debut, he went on to script history to become the first New Zealander to win a Cup Series race. It was the Chicago Street Course that handed SVG his first taste of NASCAR victory.

The three-time SuperCars champion is set to get his first major season in NASCAR, as he will be racing a full schedule for Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series. He will also feature in at least seven Cup Series races for Trackhouse Racing in addition to his Xfinity duties. The 34-year-old will have a dream start to his Xfinity campaign at the iconic Daytona International Speedway on February 17. However, instead of being anxious or edgy about his experience, Shane van Gisbergen shared his hilarious review of racing at Daytona.

Shane van Gisbergen will be putting in a double Daytona shift on February 17

Apart from his Cup Series and Xfinity schedule, Shane van Gisbergen is also set to compete in the ARCA Menards Series. The Kiwi driver will be under the banner of Pinnacle Racing Group for his ARCA feature. However, this means he will have to pull double duty as both the ARCA and Xfinity openers are set for February 17.

In a recent interview, he was asked to share his thoughts on the same, and he couldn’t hold his laughter back. “Have you watched any ARCA races at Daytona?” As soon as the interviewer asked this question, Shane van Gisbergen’s little giggle filled the whole room with laughter. “You’ve got to be on your toes there, looks like just random crashes happening all the time. Guys making moves being unpredictable but it looks fun until it’s not.”

Stepping out of the comfort zone is what makes SVG excited

The whole culture shift in itself can weigh heavily on a foreign driver like Van Gisbergen. Not only did he leave his professional career at SuperCars, but he also had to make a big call about shifting his entire family to the United States. He is certainly out of his comfort zone, and one might suggest he is under a lot of pressure, but it’s the opposite for SVG. In fact, it’s the uncertainty and anticipation that are fueling his drive for the upcoming challenge.

Describing the major change since last year, he said, “It’s pretty huge since Chicago happened, and it’s just like a career passed down 90 degrees and gone in the other direction. It’s pretty exciting; it’s good to have that uncertain feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen next and to be outside of your comfort zone. Having that anticipation and uncertainty, it’s a pretty cool feeling.”

It looks like Shane van Gisbergen is ready to take on the heat and the challenges of the 2024 NASCAR season, and it will be interesting to watch what more the Kiwi speedster has to offer.
