Chase Elliott has been out of action for a fairly long time. Safe to say, he won’t be getting back on a snowboard anytime soon. The 2020 Cup Series champion injured himself earlier this year in an accident and broke his leg. Since then, Josh Berry has been deputizing as the injury substitute, although Jordan Taylor took over at the Circuit of the Americas. Fortunately, for Elliott fans, there has been an update regarding the Hendrick Motorsports star.
According to Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass, the organization is monitoring Elliott‘s health. The team is taking things slowly (on a week-by-week basis). The bad news is that Elliott will not be back behind the wheel in the coming race weekend. Next on the Cup Series calendar is Martinsville, which is a short track that requires heavy use of the left leg to brake. Since Elliott’s left leg was injured, coming back there is pretty much out of the question.
Next Friday is exactly six weeks since Chase Elliott's accident. Team has indicated it's week-to-week & there's optimism he'll be back soon but no indication yet that he'll return for next weekend at Martinsville, a track requiring significant braking with his healing left leg. https://t.co/hroJJlISvs

NASCAR fans had some guesses on when Chase Elliott would return
As per the guesstimate of a fair number of fans, Elliott could target a return at Talladega. This is a track that will not stress his injured leg as much as Martinsville. So, Chase Elliott fans could potentially be deprived of their star driver for one more week. Many are of the opinion that Talladega is the most sensible choice owing to the speed factor and lesser dependence on braking.
Talladega makes the most sense for everybody involved

This Elliott fan appears to be a nail-biter as they consider Talladega and Dover to be bad for a racer returning after injury.
Isn’t the week after that Talladega then Dover? They all suck for a return 😬

Moreover, this sentiment was shared by others too as they expressed their concerns about returning at Talladega. This superspeedway is infamous for the frequency of “big ones.” So, there is a major risk of Elliott getting caught up in a random wreck and undoing weeks of recovery. Additionally, the race after that is at the Dover Motor Speedway, which is a one-mile track. Additionally, some fans claimed that Dover is a bit treacherous in its own right.
It’s hard to say when he’ll be back. I have a feeling it’ll be Kansas. Martinsville requires significant left leg usage, Talladega is risky beyond reason and Dover is known to be treacherous internally and externally. Kansas is really the best low risk option. https://t.co/4pC36lE9yz

However, some fans continued to be optimistic about Elliott’s return at Talladega.
If I had to guess it’ll probably be Talladega in 2 weeks. https://t.co/Hy5Nnw8l1G

A user weighed things out for the long haul. They opined that the odds will always be stacked against someone returning from an injury. However, the urgency of the matter is for Elliott to get “as many chances to win as he can get.”
I'd hold off until Talladega at a minimum & perhaps wait until Dover. No situation is going to be perfect & Elliott needs as many chances to win as he can get. https://t.co/8UgmI2NeGu

The larger sentiment of the fans was that it is only logical to wait until at least the Cup race at Kansas. They feel that Kansas is the track where the risk is not as high as the previous three ovals. However, a general consensus was that if Elliott were to jump back into the fold, it would be at the Talladega Superspeedway.
