There are just six races left in the 2020 NASCAR Cup series. Attention will soon start to shift to the incumbent 2021 season. It is already the end of September and the sport is gearing up to finalize the 2021 calendar. As it turns out, the Texas Motor Speedway is close to announcing its own 2021 schedule.

As per some reports, Texas Motor Speedway’s announcement could be in line with NASCAR’s own 2021 schedule announcement. It needs to be noted that all circuit authorities, as well as NASCAR, have to consider the COVID-19 scenario, which is still quite prevalent.

What can be expected from the 2021 NASCAR calendar?

Recently, there were reports of the 2021 calendar being tweaked. To be precise, the race in Homestead-Miami is being bumped up to host the second race of the year. In other words, it will be hot on the heels of the 2021 Daytona 500 race. This will ensure that fans linger in Florida for an extra week.

According to a report by The Athletic, the 2021 NASCAR All-Star race will be moved to Texas from Charlotte. The primary aim of this move is to add a potential race at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin. This isn’t the first time that the All-Star race had to be moved from Charlotte. Apparently, the severity of the COVID-19 situation at that location forced the change.

The coronavirus seems unlikely to go away anytime soon, and this could explain why NASCAR is taking so long to finalize the calendar. Two drivers, Jimmie Johnson and Austin Dillon, have already tested positive over the course of the season.

Of course, all this is simply speculation at this moment. However, there is a real possibility that the 2021 NASCAR calendar will be altered accordingly. Above all else, the safety of the personnel, drivers, and fans is paramount, and the sport won’t be taking any chances with anyone’s health.
