Earlier this year, when Tyler Reddick snatched his maiden victory, everyone knew that his stock would skyrocket. So, nobody could really blame 23XI Racing for striking while the iron was hot and signing him from 2024 onwards.

However, the move came as a big surprise for Richard Childress Racing.

Several weeks after the announcement, RCR owner Richard Childress still seems mad at Reddick.

According to some reports, Childress now wants Reddick gone sooner rather than later. Safe to say, Childress really knows how to hold a grudge against perceived ‘betrayals’.

According to the rumor mill, RCR Xfinity Series driver Austin Hill is one of the favorites as Reddick’s possible replacement.

The Tyler Reddick announcement was poorly timed for Richard Childress

One could understand Childress’ anger because the announcement came very quickly and suddenly. To be precise, it came barely two weeks after Reddick’s first career NASCAR Cup Series victory at Road America.

With the announcement, Reddick will stick around with RCR through the 2023 NASCAR Cup season. After that, he would head to his new home at the Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing team.

It is also worth mentioning that when Reddick’s announcement dropped, 23XI had yet to confirm their own drivers. Denny Hamlin admitted that he was not expecting to field three cars in 2024. But soon, 23XI Racing made another move in the NASCAR Cup Series driver market by extending Wallace’s contract.

Unfortunately, Kurt Busch’s future is still in a bit of a limbo, and his recent prolonged absence is not helping matters.

So, it is looking more and more likely that for the 2024 NASCAR Cup season, Wallace will partner with Tyler Reddick. Until then, the poor old driver will probably have to endure an awkward year with Richard Childress Racing.

Hopefully, for his sake, the team owner will eventually stop being “furious” and he can grab a few wins to hasten that process.
